Problems with ML320 Fuel Gauge

I have a Mercedes ML 320 2001 - just recently the fuel gauge doesn't register when new gas has been added. It has been to the Mercedes dealer 2 times in the same week - first they rest the gauge - the next time they reloaded some software - went back to the gas station to see if it is fixed - still does NOT register new gas. Once reset it will correctly deduct gas reading from the gauge but when it is refueled and FULL - won't recognize the full tank on the fuel gauge - please help!!

You need to change you're fuel gauge assembly with fuel lines the whole shebang-a-bang that sits in the gas tank. Its under your driver-side rear passenger seat, a lot of labor. It happened to me too. no biggie.

Welcome to MB World, and welcome to the dreaded ML fuel sender issue. If you search the forums, you'll find that quite a few of us have done this job ourselves. My SA said it would be $750-$800 if they did it. My son and I did it in a three hours or so for $350 in parts.

2001 ML320 fully loaded except the damn navigation sytem.
Well, lucky yall, i paid 1200 for mine. Well, actually the dealer told me that i needed a new fuel pump and also my three fuel lines were worn so i had to replace all three of those. Also, my power steering resivoir was leaking and that needed to be replaced. The good news was that my catalytic converter was cracked and my warranty covered only that. lucky me huh.

The fuel sender is part of the pump and the whole assembly does indeed need to be replaced. Also, as you point out, if you still have the old style filter you'll need to replace it and the three lines associated. There's a bit of labor involved, but it's not really technical labor, just tedious.

ML 350 2009 Fuel Gage Problems

Went through at least 6 visits to the dealer with a fuel gage that dropped from half to zero then stopped working. The ECU was somehow reprograming itself to show fuel capacity at 8,000 gal + !!
The dealer replaced both fuel senders/pumps, instrument cluster, wiring, SAM module and still NO FIX... (all under warranty)
Finally- looks like the problem is the "Central Gateway"... which is now being replaced.....

We shall see...

If the gauge was showing empty from the day the pump & filter were changed, then it could be few possibilities. The Fuel level sensor is on the fuel pump. Most probably during installation the arm of the floater has popped out, or it got jammed. Whoever installed the pump must remove it & reinstall it properly. The other possibility is while changing the fuel filter the X18/3 (next to fuel filter) connector was disturbed.
Of course, before removing the pump check that the electric plug on the pump & X18/3 is properly connected.
