passenger tilt down mirror in reverse

Had this star diagnosed into the programming today for a 2007 GL450. Took 5 minutes. Cool feature... Does not come standard or as option, can not find it in convenience or comfort package settings, only programmable with Stat Diagnosis.

This is another feature that MB decided to disable for some odd reason. Thanks for the tip. I'll have my dealer program it before I take delivery.

For another example, the driver's seat slides back on my 2005 SLK350 when you remove the key for easy exit/entry. In 2006, they disabled the feature in the SLK. Just wondering...does the seat on the GL slide back when you remove the key?

It doesn't on mine. In the owners manual, it states that this is a feature, but I sure as heck can't figure it out. I did figure out how to get the steering wheel to telescope back upon exit, but not the seat. Maybe it comes with the multi-contour seat package?

entry-exit works if steering wheel is below a certain threshold, if it is already set high, it will probably stay that way. Also, seat needs to pass a certain threshold as well, to allow the exit feature to work. Save your settings and put seat closer so that you are near the steering wheel. Save it in Memory 3 and then turn off vehicle, the seat should move back.

Lastly, when they Star D the tilt down mirror, make sure they turn it on for all 3 driver memory settings.

The owners manual shows a setting for entry-exit w/an option for the wheel to telescope & for the seat to slide back. However, when I go through the menu options on the actual car, I only get the one for the wheel to telescope. I'll try setting the seat closer & using the M3 button. Thanks!

Thanks knepster. Cool to know that it can be done. The backup camera has me spoiled. My reverse "algorithm" now runs like this - check drive side rearview mirror, check camera, check passenger side rearview mirror. Both mirrors are in regular position. Works really well.

You can turn on the "easy entry" feature by scrolling through the menu on the steering column - its there. Your sales rep should be able to bounce you through them. You can turn on the temp or speed in the lower window to show all the time and then you can get a bunch of options to show in the upper window - there are four main screens and most of the screens can then be scrolled through with the up/down arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel.

Seems to me there is Tel Audio Sat Mileage Nav dir/gear or something like that...

I went through the same song and dance with my 2006 S65. The manual said it had it but it didn't show up in the cluster menu. My 2006 C55 with a later build date had it and it worked fine.

The dealer said it wasn't possible to activate and pointed me to the "subject to change" weasel words in the manual. Another mbworld'er gave me the name and number of his SA who managed to activate it just fine on another '06 S. I told my SA to call this SA and find out how to do it.

That's when he leveled with me. MB disabled it because they get too many service calls on the feature. People are too stupid to read the manual and learn how to use it (e.g., mirror-adjust button has to be set to RH), so they are saving themselves some warranty costs. My SA got the service manager to agree to turn it on (the buzzword is "version code") if I signed a paper that I wouldn't submit warranty claims against it. I figured if it breaks, I'll fight that battle then.

Convenience features

Today I went in on an unrelated question (regarding paddle shifters that were working but I didn't realize it) and they spent about an hour rummaging around with the codes to try and figure out where to turn on the rear view mirror and seat convenience features. If anyone knows where those would be found (i.e. if you're an MB tech and have done it or know a tech who has done it) in the GL's menus, I'd be grateful to know where that is!

Thanks!

Took in my GL320 (Apr07 build) for first checkup and to program (1) the easy entry seat feature and (2) the passenger mirror tilt down in reverse. They eventually figured out how to do the seat (after telling me it could not be done!), but could not figure out how to program the mirror. Anyone here know what hints I can give my local dealer?

I have an April build GL 450 and the dealer said it "can't be done or added to the center cluster menu screen any longer, unlike other MB models..."

I use the 3rd memory button for, its an extra step, but that way both mirrors tilt if you want/need....

Can you get the menu number and procedure (and whatever else is involved) from your tech?

Looks like this was available only in the very early builds of GL which were built last year.

Mine is Oct build and I am still trying to find if I have this option or not.

Just when I was thanking MB for returning the radio station memory function scroll rather than freq, now I find out the tilt mirror is gone???

Wouldn't it have been easier just to leave the feature in rather than reprogram it out?

I actually had a service rep tell me it was because people were confused by it and didn't understand how it worked. My own opinion (opinion) is that they were tired of repacing motors that had burned out before the warranty was up. That's what happened with my Lexus that had the tilt-down feature (and they still do).

I guess you're right. If you can't make it last...don't make it at all. Kinda goes against what MB was doing in the early Y2K years, always putting in the latest gadgets, although some got too confusing for the daily drivers but majority of them probably haven't gone through a full-cycle of QA testing.

Can't say I blame MB but I still miss it.
