Yes, I DID read the manual. Page 171. Setting the time: “this function is
available only when the Time Synchronization is off!” As polite as I can say
it .. what the hell is the “Time Synchronization” and how do you turn it on
and off to get the “Time-Hours” to come up?

I have gone through all the steering wheel controls of Ups and Downs and
Pluses and Minuses! I can’t get the “time-hours” to come up! Frustrating.

Why wouldn’t MB just put in a nice little digital touch screen button deal?
Touch screen makes EVERYTHING so easy and logical!

Anyway .. please help. How do I reset my clock?

That's correct...from your command center hit the SERV button and just follow the prompts for the clock.

Go to the settings menu on the center dash readout using the lower left button on your steering wheel (button looks like 2 pages) , hit up arrow until you see time date, and then hit the plus sign on the right..I think that should get you there.

VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION UNIT - not connected to Tele Aid
1. Ensure engine is running.

2. Press the SERV button on the left side of COMAND (3rd button down on left side next to TEL).

The system screen will appear. If not, click the SYSTEM soft key.

3. Press the TIME soft key.

4. Use the left or right arrow keys to select hours or minutes.

5. Press the up or down arrow keys to set the minutes and hours.

6. Each time the up or down arrow is pressed, the time will change in 30-minute increments.

7. Press the BACK soft key button or OK button.

8. Time is set. Analog clock on dash will automatically change also.

If the analog dashboard clock does not change along with the COMAND unit clock, turn engine off and on again or ensure the TIME SYNC is checkmarked ON in the settings menu under TIME/DATE sub heading.

If the Time Sync menu is missing, or Time Sync is on and the analog clock does not change, follow these instructions:

1. With engine running and car in Park, press left side lower button on steering wheel until the Settings display appears in the lower display of speedometer. Do not press Reset at this time.

2. Press the up arrow button located on the left side of steering wheel. A menu will appear in lower display of speedometer. Scroll down to Time or Time/Date using the (+) or (-) button on the right side of steering wheel.

NOTE: You must continue tapping the (+) or (-) button on steering wheel until menu appears. On some models, the Time/Date option is listed under submenu Vehicle.

3. Ensure Time is highlighted and press the up arrow to view Clock Hours then press (+) or (-) to adjust the hour. If minutes do not require adjusting, skip to step 5.

4. Press the up arrow (steering wheel) until Clock Minutes is displayed. Press (+) or (-) to adjust minutes.

5. Press the Reset or R button (small round button to the left of the fuel gauge). Clock will now run backward to 12 noon then automatically advance to the correct time.

6. Press the Page button on the left side of steering wheel to exit.

I went through the same thing, so I know how you feel.

In case you haven't found it, the answer to your first question is probably on Page 170, one page earlier in your manual: in the Settings Time/Date submenu, you should have a setting for "Time sync. with head unit." When that setting is "on," the clock synchronizes with the time from the navigation system in the Comand, and you can't (and have no need to) set the time with the steering wheel controls. That's why amdeutsch mentioned that the steps are listed in your nav/comand manual.

But I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, and unless they've radically improved the Comand manual, you won't find it in the index anyway. So to answer your second question (assuming it's still like the 2004's): (1) on the Comand, press the SERV button; (2) on the screen, press the TIME soft key (upper left), that brings up the time with the hours selected; (3) press the DOWN arrow on the switch with the OK button, that decreases the hours by one; (4) press the OK button, watch the hour hand on the clock move to the new time; (5) save the instructions to use next spring, when you can do the same thing, but with the UP arrow instead.

Only takes a few seconds...if you know how.

With Time Syncronization set, I watched my clock automatically change as I crossed time zones this summer. Unfortunately, the system doesn't handle daylight savings time so it needs a bit of help in the summer. On top of that, it gets more complex because I live in a state that has no daylight savings time.

In any case, the biggest problem with Mercedes is that the manuals have poor indexes.

I realize that my wife probably couldn't set most of things in the car so it's up to the salesman to set up as much of it as possible before you pick up the car. My salesman had already turned on Time Syncronization and told us about it. Otherwise, I would have never known about it.

At one time, BMW had a check list that you filled out and the dealer set the car up for you. I think the same thing applies to the Lexus LS. That would be good for someone like my wife because it wouldn't matter if the car had soft keys or a touch screen, she couldn't handle it.

Corvette menu is simple logic easy to use and can be done while driving.

Mercedes E500 menu is not user friendly, difficult to understand and buttons aren't labeled to reflect the functions.

My wife drives the E500 and we have both attempted to use the logic system. Given it does work, but easy to make errors. Now if I just had the "star trek" machine for another $30,000 I might be able to make is as easy as the Corvette menu.

Why is MB trying so hard to make things difficult for its customers? BMW is doing the same too with totally unnecessary electronics. My sold 1986 MB special class clock could be adjusted just like an ordinary clock but now I have to press different buttons for over 20 times just to reset winter daylight saving time.

The Japanese car makers are never as pompous. They aim to please the customer and are much more user friendly.

Absolutely!!

It was my C-6 that I was really comparing it to (to myself) but didn’t want
to say that on here. Touch the little clock screen a couple of times and Zip
it’s set.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I’m going to recopy them and take them
out to my car tomorrow and start all over again. That failing .. I’ll just wait
another 6 months for it to be correct again.

It really is incredible that it takes all of these steps just to go on or off DST...and to boot, the engine has to be running ! BTW, what time is it ?

make sure you hit the OK button after you set the time...this will set the clock...

Actually, the engine doesn't have to be running, just the ignition on, in position 1.
I Can't imagine why MB instructs that the engine should be on....very bizarre.

I just purchased a W211 E350 with an aftermarket radio. How do I set the clock with the stock buttons? The Time/date option does not come up in the setting menu.

your stock button will not work with the aftermarket radio. It only works with Mercedes OEM radio which is the Command.

I had the exact same problem you'll need someone with access to Xentry then do the following:

"Control Units->Information and Communication->IC (instrument cluster)->Control unit adaptation->Version coding"... all rest is easy understandable.

Remove menu options
From Star Diagnosis on the car, go to Instrument Cluster -> Control unit adaptations and then set Navigation to 'Not Present'

That will remove the NAV menu, and hopefully re-enable the time menus.

I have seen occasions where it did not re-enable the time menu, and then I used 'developer mode' (which dealer does not have) to re-enable it, but if it doesn't work, I suggest dealer looks in the individual Key preference settings (also in the cluster coding) (there are 3 of them), and if 'Time Sync with Head unit' is there, turns all 3 of them to OFF and resets the cluster.

They can also set TEL and Audio to Not Present to remove the TEL and Audio menus if they are now useless with the head unit change.
