Question...

My CLK 320 needs new brake pads and rotors soon, something within this month. And i wanted to know if it was possible to swap in the AMG rotors, and calipers from a CLK55 AMG onto my CLK 320 without any modifications or problems.

Please let me know if it's as simple as switching them out or if they're completely different and it's not possible.

I wouldn't consider a brake upgrade a waste of money.

Consider this, a stock 2002 CLK430 only requires two feet longer to stop from 60 MPH than a 2004 Porsche 911 GT3. A CLK320 uses the exact same brakes and is lighter, therefore it should stop shorter than a CLK430.

Now get a price on a pair of factory W208 AMG front rotors.

At this point, those OEM CLK320 brakes may not look too bad now. The 320 may have some shortcomings, but brakes aren't one of them.

Wow!! Good info...never knew that the stats were that good. I know they felt very good and all but its good to know that the stats backed up my good feelings on my brakes!!

One of the reason why i wanted AMG Calipers and Rotors is because of the look, but i wasn't sure how much "better" they were. So here's the thing... How much better are the W208 AMG brakes compared to my CLK 320?

Does anyone have any accurate idea of how much they may cost for hte AMG W208 Calipers and Rotors?

I am looking to upgrade as well because I plan on taking my car to a couple track events this summer. The stock brakes do stop quite well, but I am not sure how they are lap after lap.

A little over $2200, plus tax, plus shipping, and you'll need pads.

These are prices for OE hardware:

• Rear W208 AMG rotors are $128 per side.
• Rear W208 AMG calipers are $220 per side.
• The front left W208 AMG rotor is $288 and the front right is $289.
• Front W208 AMG calipers are $482 per side.

These are discounted prices. Call your local dealer for full retail. I'm not trying to discourage you, it's just that real AMG brakes are expensive. A Brembo big brake kit is really not that much more money.

I spoke to one of the dudes from EVOSPORT, and he mentioned that...

- It's best to NOT get the AMG swap and just go with the Brembo BBK instead
- He also said that the AMG swap "isn't too much of a difference" for its price
- But if i can't afford the Brembo BBK, I can get very similar results with "Rotora"


As of now... all i need is the rest of the money then i'll be set. LoL.

Like Marcus said the brakes are pretty sweet on these rides.... You may also want to consider cross drilled rotors, better pads and stainless steel brake lines. This will give you better looks, a firmer pedal, and better stopping.

Of all the upgrades you can do on a CLK320 I don't think that bigger brakes are needed. You can lock the wheels very easily with the standard brakes so it is not an issue for street driving.

On the track you might get fade with stock brakes but I think you would have to push it vey hard. Before you go to the track replace the brake lines with stainless lines and replace the fluid with a high boiling point fluid (e.g., ATE). If you run street tires on the track you will run out of tires just about as quickly as you run out of brakes (the tires will be hot greasy) so it is a never ending process (again I doubt that you would do this until you run the track on several track days). When I tracked my last P-Car (an 06 Boxster S) I used track pads, different wheels and R compound street legal tires. Not worth it on a CLK320.

Changing to a more aggressive pad will help braking but you have to be careful, track pads need to heat up to work well and can result in faster rotor wear, harder pads squeal more as well. If PAGID makes sports pads for the CLK and you want to track it then put those in for the track and daily driving.
