Had this happen about 10,000 miles ago: No kick down gear. After fighting with MB, because there were no codes, they replaced the EGR valve and everything was okay. Happened again a few days ago. The check engine light came on, no kick down gear. The code in the computer was DTC2047-001. Low rail pressure. They replaced the quantity control valve and "road tested" the car. I picked it up, got on the highway, hit the kickdown gear and the check engine light came on and no power. Same thing. Kony, have you seen this anywhere? Do I have the same EGR problem maybe? Wish they knew how to road test a car. Bringing it back next week.

Sounds like the high pressure rail has failed. I would demand they replace the engine at this point. for the fuel rail to fail is rare, and IMO unacceptable.

Had this happen one time to mine. Knowing a little about how the older turbodiesel engines worked, it seemed like there wasn't any additional fuel added to compensate for boost pressure and it made NO power. The car slowed down to about 30mph climbing a long and slightly steep grade close to my home and normally it would climb it in 5th gear. And the kickdown didn't work either. I had to manually downshift. No CE light.

After turning the car off and starting it back everything was fine. Hasn't done it since.

demanding a new engine is a bit dramatic, don't ya think?

I had this happen on my 08 GL 320 cdi at about 15,000 miles. It was one of the rails. It actually got better while I was waiting on the part. took them an afternoon to replace it and it was good as new.

theres a service bulletin out on replacing the rail. I don't know why they don't replace it.

As per DTB P-B-07.16/55c “211.026 engine performance complaints” (i.e.: surging/hesitating/misfiring, etc.) they should have installed a modified EGR valve (part # A6461401960) together with updating the ECU software.

In addition, Service Campaign 2006070003 OCT06 “211.026 VIN A530155 to A835762” Incorrect glow plugs may have been inadvertently installed during a workshop visit due to an error in replacement part documentation. This may result in poor engine performance. Replacement glow plugs part #A0011595101. FYI 92 vehicles affected and original owners should have received a letter from MBUSA.

I replaced the fuel filter. Maybe I got a bad load of diesel. Anyway, I did a soft ECU reset and hit the passing gear about 50 times. Each time it went up to the red line and performed as it should. The check engine light went off and stayed off. I am not completely sold that it won't happen again. As previously stated, there is a TB about replacing the rail if the first step doesn't fix it. We will wait and see. I'll post. This car previously had the EGR valve replaced with the upgraded part, and, hopefully the ECU was flashed. This occurred 25,000 miles ago, at 35,000.
