Pros and Cons to removing the Resonator?

What are the pros and cons to removing the resonator on a C32? What performance and audible differences would I notice if I removed the resonator?

Roozy is taking it off of his C32, and he is trying to talk me into doing it on mine.

I just had it removed last week. I asked my mechanic prior to taking it off what's the use of the resonator and will it affect the car in any manner. My mechanic said the resonator's main function is to reduce the noise of the exhaust, removing it will make the car sound louder. Since we have a pretty big AMG exhaust, it will not be "very" loud.

After I removed the resonator, I noticed the car sounds "deeper", not louder. Pretty close to my ex-CLK430's "V8" sound. I like this non-resonator sound way better than before. I would recommend you to remove it too, John! :p

How is the sound at cruise speeds for long periods of time? These resonators are used to cut down on the droaning noises at cruise.

Ok, so removing the resonators will give an ML 63 a deeper exhaust sound, but how about performance, any increase? And is it better to remove them and put new high performance mufflers on?

I only got a clip of my car from outside, but this should give you an idea how it sounds. I love it with no resonator.

Removing the resonator will defenetly reduce weight! That thing is pretty heavy.

performance gain is little to none. it's mostly for sound. you loose the lbs off the resonator tho, so it counts as a little weight saving.

to get performance gain you can put a performance muffler on it say Brabus or Carlsson or Supersprint etc, but I think your AMG muffler is very good already.

i say do it, cheapest, best mod i have done thus far. From my understanding no added performance, just a nicer sound. I have however noticed a little bit of a drone in the 2500k-3k RPM, that causes a rattle somewhere in the back seat area.

I removed the resonator and the secondary cats, but I have a C43. I removed the resonator first and it definitely made it a little louder and deeper tone almost no difference in power. The biggest difference was when I removed the secondary cats..... There was a little extra power, just a little, but the tone of the exhaust was changed to a more throaty less refined tone but only when I really get on it, cruising around 2k-3k it's almost the same as stock but at WOT WOWOWOWOWOWOW the beast is UNLEASHED!!!! I am willing to bet the outcome will be basically the same when removing the resonator or secondary cats on any MB, the sound will change but the power is will remain almost the same. I recommend it to anyone who wants their car to growl not for the guy who's looking to add HP....

Whoa! Dug up an 8 year old thread!

Questions is: Why? Just ditch the resonator and you will be happier.
