Chip or ECU reprogram?

I want more HP's/Torque on my 2005 SL55 AMG.

I did search in this site about chips and ECU reprogram. Powerchip & Speed Tuning does provides chip & ECU reprogram, I know there others more expensive $$$$. I don't want to spend thousands for this upgrade.

Would like to know what SL55 AMG owners are doing for this kind of upgrade.
Thanks.

I would suggest doing a pulley/ECU combo, the ECU alone will not provide large gains.

Where are you located?

When you change the pully do you have problems with the clutch? I just had mine replaced at 25K and they said they last about 25K.

When they chip the ECM does that also fix the shift from 1-2? I hate the "spark retard" between the gears.

I'm ready to mod my ride after the warranty expires this month. (it's in the shop again for it's last free ride)

Thanks!

Actually, our ECU work by itself is yielding between 45-55 hp/50 lb ft tq.

Now our latest ECU/pulley combo is doing +85 hp/120 lb ft tq.

We also bring the supercharger on at ~1200 rpm instead of 2300. Improve throttle response and get rid of that pesky 155 mph limiter!

Check our MB/AMG area http://www.veloceperformance.com/mercedes.htm

and our testimonials http://www.veloceperformance.com/testimonial.htm

I am sure that we can give you a set up that will put a big grin on your face!

Bob:

None of our pulley cars have had any problems with the clutch... and as far as longevity goes, mine has 40K miles and is going strong.

Our ECU work definitely improves the 1-2 shift. You will also like the extra power and the way that we distribute it better over a wider band.

Is that price for the pully and ecu programming installed?
Do I need an excuse to drive to AZ.....Hmmm, road trip!

Bob:

Sorry, that isn't the price including the pulley install, but our mechanic can usually do it in 2 hours, so it is relatively inexpensive for the install.

That's a long drive.... but we're worth it!

It might be more cost effective to ship us your ECU, we'll tune it, and ship it back with the pulley. There is probably a mechanic in your area that may have done an install for us in the past that I am sure will install the pulley.

Make sure you do a search on these forums concerning the various chip tuners before you decide.

I recommend Powerchips which the link is in my sig.

Most of the 55K cars that we have had come through (including mine) turned on anywhere from 2100-2400 rpm. Very rarely do I see one that comes on before 2K. Yours is an 030, and they are set up a little different.

Hi, Rick. Possibly worse than useless.

Here's the claim:
"The SURGE Performance module simply wires into the factory harness of the IAT sensor. The module will work with the sensor to provide a new signal to your vehicles computer, or ECU."
The IAT sensor reports the intake air temperature to the ECU. That information along with the mass airflow (MAF) sensor tells the ECU how much air is flowing into the engine. The ECU uses that airflow information to manage the air-fuel ratio.

So if the device works as claimed, the ECU will be seeing an incorrect intake air temperature and will make adjustments to the air-fuel ratio based on that incorrect information.

The odds of misreporting airflow actually making the engine more powerful are not so good. It might even cause the engine to produce less power under a number of circumstances.

It's a good one to avoid, as you have planned.
