CF Rear Diffuser for E55 - Help!

Hey guys, I have a few questions and would love some feed back before I start this project.....

I just got a Carbon Fiber rear diffuser for my 2005 E55… It basically maintains the same shape and style as the OME one that is already on there… As I climbed under there I expected to see some sort of facets clips or pop-locks but there is nothing. Im assuming that the OME one is either glued or 3M taped on there. You can defiantly tell they are two separate pieces…. but I just wanted to check with you all on how to approach this before I try to anything to cause damage.

So if any of you have done this before of know what the best way of getting the old one removed, that would be great.

Also… once I get it the old one removed. What is the best produce I can get to attach the new one. I was thinking 3M double sided tape but I don’t know which one to get… there are hundreds of them….

Thank you

The OEM plastic is 3M taped on.. I heated it up a lil with a heat gun, and slowly pulled at it for about 30 mins.. Its gonna get destroyed, so dont expect to salvage it.. Then after you get it off, you can use some adhesive remover to gwet the remaing glue/tape off.. Than just wiped the area down with some alcohol, and use some 3M double sticky tape to attach the CF piece..

It is held in place with the double sided tape. Heat it with an hair dryer and then start to pull it off. When I did mine it came off in a multitude of small pieces. You will have the tape residue left on the body and I removed that with 3M adhesive remover. It is a tedious process but really is a no brainer. I used the 3M double sided tape that is for body moldings; bought at Pep Boys. The CF diffuser is light enough that this will hold it in place quite well.

Eurorev makes the OEM style rear diffuser and Vorsteiner makes the DTM looking one. I ordered a Eurorev one, I will post some pics when it gets here.

eurorev doesnt have it on their website as far as i know you have to call them to order ir 1-866-7000REV. as far as fitting it on a 63 i am not sure. if the bumper is identical to e55 it will work other wise carbon fiber is not something you "make fit".

CF

I went with the Eurorev b/c it was more like the OME look

If you are looking for and E63... they might be a pretty close match... not sure. Id give EuroRev a call, they are pretty good to work with.

Here is the link for Vorsteiner... they make a very nice product!!!

http://www.vorsteiner.com/mercedes/e55-diffuser.html

Here is a shot of it... sorry I couldn't get it held up to the back of the car... it was too windy and my dog was not much help.

yeah i got a eurotek trunk lip.....and i will get the front bumper lip from them too. but for the rear diffuser i like the oem look better than the crazy DTM vorsteiner look.......thats just my opinion but i think it looks cleaner and flows better. not to mention that its 1/3 the price of vorsteiner.

Wishful thinking, but according to Euroteck's website, their CF diffuser is released tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

If/when it does, my Eurorev one will be for sale.

We need to update the ETA on that. I would say 3 more weeks? Probably in just a week or two I will finally post pics of the prototype done.

Thank you to all who are waiting.

A good amount of the front lips will be done the end of this week. (Finally). But we will be closed the following attending the SEMA show, so nothing will ship until we get back.

CF

Well.... just a heads up.... if you are thinking about getting one of these CF Rear diffusers...... I totally recommend having a shop put it on for you... it would be worth every penny!!!!! TRUST ME!!

Fooooock.... what a pain in the *****!!

I mean, I may be partly retarded and my garage only has a limited selection on tools but it kinda went like this.....

... basically it consisted of me laying on my back or squeezed in between the garage door and the car... trying to warm this shait up with my wife’s hair dryer, which is a POS…. start pealing away this thin plastic diffuser with 3 English Bulldogs trying to lend me a hand by tasting and smelling everything they can… including me

OK…. I get the whole diffuser off (which comes off nicely in about a million peaces) and now it is time to remove the adhesive…. Talking about serious thoughts of firing up the old W211 and keeping the garage door shut… haha… I basically pealed the majority of skin off my finders and separated the skin from the nail on both thumbs and pointer fingers… and that’s with use of adhesive remover….

PS… make sure you don’t have any cuts on you hands before using that shiat… wow I wanted to scream like a little school girl.

Well… its off and the bumper is prepped for the new CF one… My boy is coming over tomorrow to lend me a hand with installing it to make sure everything lines up nicely.

Ill post some pics one it is on…. Or smashed in a million pieces if I loose my temper… haha

… all in all… I must thank Sailor Jerry for all the Rum he provided me last night!!

That is too funny!!! Because of your post, I will now have a shop install the Vorsteiner rear CF diffuser that I ordered.

Ain't that the truth!!

FWIW, I had a few issues with attaching the new one in some spots, where it wasn't adhering as well as I'd like (for some reason, my bottom right portion had an attitude). If you see some spots separate a little after a couple of hours, use a clamp to hold it overnight.. it made a world of difference for me.

Thanks for the info.... I planned on masking it down for the night but I think I will use clamps instead.

Totally.... espically with the Vorsteiner.... Im pretty sure you have to do a little bumper cutting to get that thing to site in as deep as it looks.

Best of luck, shoot me some pics when you get it on.
