Just been checking on eBay for prices.

It seems they're selling ~20-23K. That's why I chose that number..

I just would hate to see your car be on the market for years loosing more value.

How many miles on it?

I doubt it's worth as little as $12k, so OP I would disregard that advice. Even that eBay one he posted is already at $13k+ and climbing, with two days left on the auction. And eBay tracks wholesale prices anyway, it's not an accurate representation of what you can expect to get selling at retail or private party.

A fair price is probably $18k'ish, maybe a smidge more depending on mileage and condition.

Out of every 1996+ SL600 for sale in the entire country, the only 2 that are anywhere near that $12k price are both listed at around $14k, and both have excessively high mileage (80k-100k +/-). There is no 1997/1998 SL600 anywhere that I can find, regardless of mileage, for $12k.

OP: If the car is normal mileage for this model (30k-60k), then $12k =

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably end up selling it for ~16-18K. I've enclosed some pics.

For me, this car was a labour of love. If I can't find the "right buyer" (as in someone who I truly believe is going to love it as much as I do, I'll probably just hold on to it. I don't need the money. I just have way too many cars at the moment. (8 cars with 2 reservations for "special exotics" right now).

What happened to the AMG's?

That car's got the AMG sport package, it's supposed to have $2k worth of AMG Monoblock Aero II's on it. Do you still have them? I think you might have a problem moving the car without the proper rims on it. Anyone who knows these cars will know how much $$$ AMG rims are, and will know that they're missing. You're better off putting the AMG's back on and selling the car complete. People know what those are worth, and will want to deduct that from the purchase price.

Minus the AMG wheels he's closer to $12k than he thinks.

I agree with you.

The original wheels are worth $2k-$3k by themselves, and then the 275/35-18 OEM rears are $300+ apiece, and the 245/40-18 OEM fronts are $250+ apiece, so you've got another $1100 or so in tires. So to put the car back to the way it's supposed to be, with the proper rims and proper tires to fit them (which almost any buyer is going to want) would cost around $4k.

People aren't stupid, they will notice the difference, and are just going to deduct this from the price of the car.

OP: If you still have the OEM rims, put them back on the car and don't try to make a few pennies by selling them separately. It will reduce the value of the car by more than you get for the rims separately, and will also greatly reduce the number of people interested in buying the vehicle.

I just bought a 97 SL600 for 14500 including taxes and registration. Have to change the left catalytic converter, and need a replacement drivers side mirror. Also need hood hinges which are apparently hard to find, because my a-hole mechanic neglected to close my hood properly and almost killed me when the windshield popped up on me. She might be jinxed, but I still love her.
