do you guys notice a strange smell in your clk?

the smell is like something is burning
its like a metal / electronic parts are burning....strange...


Do you guys have any idea where this smell come from?

btw my air-conditioner also have a strange smell during the first minute i turn it on...

but this smells is different
like a metal is burning
i dont feel safe anymore in my car

I haven't smelled anything abnormal yet. But my car does make a few strange noises while the car is off. Today, I went to wash the car and as soon as water hit the front grille, some type of electronic noise started under the hood. It goes for about a second, pauses for 3 seconds and then goes for a second. This continued for about 10 minutes.

Then I got in the car and I could hear something inside the dash whirring quietly.

What is all this stuff running while the car is off ??

Yeah, once and a while i get the smell your talking about. And when my car is off my car makes noise from the inside also. Sounds like its coming from the ac vents, i dunno.

edit : i notice 2 types of smell

1. the smell from air-conditioner during the first minute

- this smells is not bad, only last a minute and it does not
smell like a burning metal at all....

2. the strange smell i mention....the burining metal smell....this is
the smell im concerned ... because it lasts until i get out of the
car....and it just started recently...its been about 2 days...and
my odmeter reads 2600 miles now..

so im wondering if you guys have the 2nd type of smell?
i know some of you ehre have the 1st type of smell which i think is okay

I have both types of smell. But I think everyone has the ac smell also.

I have two odors:

The AC midlew smell; I think MBZ needs an update/redesisn as too much moisture is building in the system causing the smell, the new e class seems to be suffering from this as well. Has anyone taken their car in for this yet?

I also have a sulfur smell coming from the exhaust, I posted info on this before and the article mentions new "cats" causing the problem and the smell should go away after 3000+/- miles, I've got 2700 and it's still there.

Funny my 99 00 and 01 clk 430's NEVER had either smell

I have had this strange noise(s) in my 03 CLK 320. Mine went on for 15 min. only 2 days after I bought it. It was coming from inside the engine, and I was totally freakin'! I called MB totally pissed and told them I was gonna bring it in, but it eventually stopped and hasn't ever done it again.

As far as smells, only the "NEWNESS" still in my 320, otherwise, noting besides the normal AC stuff.

hmm this happens in my c320 as well when i was washing my car also. i dont know what to make of it.

who else encountered this? why does this happen?

i think you ll are a little to worried. the ticking noise you here is the exhaust cooling and contracting (normal). the whirring noise you hear is common to all mb's and has something to do with the climate control i beleive. the metal burning smell is most likely just the exhaust and other metal parts burning. usually when you first put together a new engine, or tranny or exhaust, etc. they give off a burning smell for a little while, could be 10 minutes, could be 6 months. either way i wouldnt worry about it as this is normal. just my .02

ticking is OK.interior noise after shut down is OK. a burning smell is not. new car burn-off should go away after 50-60 miles.i would get it checked. when there's a burning smell it can get serious.
