Powerchip, Speed Innovation, Singh, Kleeman, etc etc. ECU is under that George Foreman grill on your engine.

I'd go with renntech. I got it on my car as a first mod and all I can say is WOW! You can really feel the difference. Better acceleration, better throttle responsive, top speed limiter is gone, better mpg, shifting points are more violent, rev limiter is raised. Plus your getting a 20-25 hp/25-30 tq. Got mine for $1195+plus shipping. Its a nice easy upgrade. And its two different worlds.

no i did not because i also have headers on it, i deleted the secondary cats, and added the eisenamm race exhaust in the mix. but i believe after the ecu i was in the 5.4-5.6 0-62 mph, it pulled a hell of a lot harder throughout the gears, lag from the gas pedal was gone, and i think i gained a little gas mileage maybe 1-2 mpg. I can't really tell though because i have a heavy foot. and i would say i gained 290+ hp and 280+ tq. its a verry good upgrade. night and day difference. i believe its worth the money.

their both very reputable companies, either way i think you will be happy with either one. side note which ever one you get for the first 100 or so miles take it easy because the car has to note of the higher rev range, shift points, and power. but after that haha let fun begin. you'll definitely notice the 60-120 pull... its a rocket! Renntech is around 1195+ shipping, kleemann is 1495+ shipping. It doesn't really matter its more about price at this point. tell which me which one you get. And one more thing this little mod will put a shock and awe on those little 335i boys out there.

Kleeman is usually much more cheaper than Renntech.

I.E they quoted me about $3500 for ECU tune at Renntech and Kleeman was $1500 for the SAME exact tune and gains?
Rip off?

If they can prove that the chip caused your problem, then yes.

If it raises the rev limiter that's always a risky move unless you know for sure the MB valve train can handle it.

I can't imagine a stock C350 gaining 20-25hp just from a reflash.
Reflashes tend to smooth out power and yes, they can remove the speed limiter and raise the rev limit. Only time I can see a reflash gaining so much power would be if you had an intake, exhaust, and test pipes. At that point if the car was retuned to take advantage of the new more free flowing setup, I could see those gains being posible. However, most reflashes/chips people get are basic 1 size fits all.

I for one would never change anything computer wise unless my car was on a dyno being tuned. Again I'm not a fan of blind fold tuning AKA 1 size fits all chips.

My weekend car has a serial cable coming out of the dashboard on the passenger side, if I plug a laptop into it I can change idle, rev limit, top speed, and A/F ratios on the fly. but, without being on a dyno with a exhaust probe for A/F readings I wont touch it. My car even has a built in wideband setup for reading the A/F and also a EGT temp gauge, but I don't trust it to the point of tuning.

$1000.00+ for any "chip/reflash" is just crazy IMO. dollar to hp is just not worth it. To give you an idea of price, my car spent about 2 hours on a dyno getting tuned, it did at least 35-40 pulls. Cost? about $600.00. Granted I was the first person in the area with the setup my car had so my car had to start from scratch, the next guy around with a setup like mine should only have to spend around 1 hour on the dyno doing 15 or so pulls. Again $1000+? wow....

Best part about tuning on the dyno, you get a base run and see REAL power gains, not, "oh well my new chip gains 20-25hp...." its a real # not a "I hope" #

"edit"

Something else to keep in mind, if you take your car in to the dealership to get an update computer wise for the transmission or engine, there's a good chance that 1000+ dollar "chip/retune" could be wiped out.

If it's a piggy back system it should be fine, however if it is a true "reflash" meaning you send in your ECU they update it and send it back to you, then it could be wiped back to stock on your next dealer visit if there's any major updates that need to be done.

In response to the guy above me... What are you talking about??? 20-25 prolly at the crank. 14-18 at the wheels. And no if you do some "actual" research you are protected no matter what. And actual some dealers are ok with the mods. One because they plain out work. Two renntech actually tunes real amg cars and they know are motors in and out and only tune it to the safe perimeters. and actually the exhaust on these c300/350 come well tuned from the factory and they actual have cold air intakes already. Test pipes? dude people just want something simple and thats what these ecu do. You say we spend a 1000+ plus on these tunes, well your spending 600+ on dyno and do it yourself crap and you prolly don't even know the safe limit of the car. This is a benz not a ricer. these gains are actually very possible due to the fact that the slk350 has 305 hp from the factory with are exact same engine. ours is just detuned. Let me tell you a hint of advice get the car dynoed when you put heads/cams/ headers/superchargers etc... not when you revise the motor for an ecu. And if you know the guy at the dealer they can actually work with you so they don't reflash the car unless their is a major update. And in the case they do you can send the ecu back and get reflashed and all you pay is shipping. Before trying to make outrageous claims jeff.. do your homework and come prepared. because one you look like an idoit. two these guys who are asking the questions about the ecu are real people and want real answers.

You are? show me something in writing.

All I ask for is a simple stock C300 or C350 before dyno and a after chip dyno. Clearly a lot of people have seen 20-25hp gains so it shouldn't be hard to find one.

With out it, 20-25hp is nothing more then claims.

You really think MB will fork out the bill for a new motor if they had no reasonable doubt that the reflash/chip was the cause of the problem?
Most likely you will not run into any issues with running a chip/reflash since the C classes is naturally aspirated so it wont be a problem, I highly doubt the motor would give out. However if it did, to asnwer the guys question, will MB honor the warranty? The guy above me says so, but I wouldn't count on it.

Now if it's a MB backed company doing the chip/reflash then that's a different story, if you read into it you should see somewhere that the ECU meets Mercedes guidelines and will retain the factory warrenty.

Stillen makes a bunch of nissan stuff that will retain the factory warrenty, however its pretty low on power gains.
