I know. The worst is certainly between gear 1 and 2. But keep mind it is an automatic transmission so there's so fast they can shift. I've heard of TCU upgrade but I'm not familiar with the topic. You may want to do a search on this blog.

You will have to learn how to time your shifts point.

The upshift lag is more apparent during normal cruising shifts, but during WOT, it seems to upshift faster. Either way, it's not nearly as fast as my previous BMW 335i's ZF21 6AT tranny w/ the paddles...that shifted in just 100ms.

Ya I was just thinking the same thing. The fastest auto shifts I've ever experienced.

Can this issue be fixed if ECU flashed? such as Kleeman K1?

Fastest auto shifting is without a doubt from the Steptronic from BMW. 3 owners telling you. I also noticed the slugishness of the AMG transmission

hmm, dammit. I think the 335 steptronic is laggy compared to the SMG M3 I had. If the C63 has even more lag, I will be disappointed.

I had the problem too. Basically it took long time to downshift 2 gears, like from 7 to 5. I am thinking about TCU tuning.. but still gathering information..I have to say this is the only problem I have with this beast...

Yup, tranny sucks in the C63. At least as far as shifting goes. Im sure its solid otherwise.

Give me a C63 in a manual...

I don't know what you guys do during the normal course of the day but for a daily driver its perfect. If you need to shift that quick you should have gotten another car.

My 09 seems to have a little delay also. I've also just been reading and gathering information on the ECU and TCU tuning since I joined the forum. Need to get to the track and get some base line runs in so I can get rolling, as this is the first vehicle I've owned more than a month with out modding.

Mike.

Most of us are used to manual's I think. So going from a manual where I have all the control to a laggy tranny and not having a choice in the matter other than another car sucks.

hmm, I am thinking about calling Kleemann to get more infor on TCU and ECU since they have really good reputation around here. I wondered if someone else did it already. I will be surprised if no one hasn't asked about the lag issue yet. It's kind of annoying. just me...

I did speak to Cory at Kleemann about the shift lag points.
He says that the Kleemann tune does absolutely nothing to change or alter this. What others have written about the transmission feel has nothing to do with the shift points having been changed. Perhaps it is just that extra power from the tune that eludes to that feeling.

AFAIK, the only tune that plays with the TCU settings for C63 is MHP.

Yeah the MHP tune is looking better because of this. $5500 for the V3. Almost 500WHP.

Thanks! Did anyone have MHP tuning here? Does V3 cover both TCU and ECU tuning?

The whole TCU tuning has become a very controversial issue since the emergence of MHP and their claims. You should do a lot of research before taking any steps regarding TCU tuning.

Regarding the shifting, unfortunately, most AMGs have this shift delay. What makes matters worse is that the delay is actually variable. One time, the delay maybe 0.005 seconds while other times, it maybe 0.01 seconds. This makes it incredibly hard to learn how to time it. In general, best results are usually achieved via sport mode right after aggressive re-adaptations.

It seems I have to deal with it. For some reason, I didn't feel the lag that much when I test drove the car..maybe I was too impressed by the torque and power

Its still the best true auto tranny i ve driven. It actually works very well when you put it in Comfort or Sport on the road. Where as stuff like the SMGIII's auto is simply unbearable on the street. New technologies like bmw's DCT or PDK are much better but I don't think any of these are as good when in full auto mode as the C63's tranny. (DCT at least isn't as good in auto not sure about PDK)

Now the 335's ZF tranny is a really good unit that probably shift slightly faster than the tranny in C63 but I don't think it rev match as well and sport mode isn't as good.

As of now theres always a tradeoff between comfort and shiftspeed.(again mabye not the PDK)
