Exclamation Immobiliser Problem, Car Wont Start, Help!!!

I have a C180 elegance auto 1996 with the keyless entry on the drivers door and the red and green lights on the interior mirror. The car wont start. Ive changed the batteries in the remote fob and followed the instructions in the handbook The car stil wont start, the red and green lights just flash alterntively.I sopke to our local Mercedes Dealer, Sytners, they siad get it recovered to them by the AA I spoke to mercedes at Milton Keynes, they said get it recovered by the AA Can someone out there tell me how to get this car to start, it can't be a main dealer only situation can it. Its sitting outside the house and the dealers are 20 miles away! Help please if you've had this problem. Oh yes, there was a green pipe under the bonnet, pneumatic pipe I think with a broken connection, might that have done something. Thanks for reading this , hope you can help

Get out of the car (already done I assume ), lock the car with the remote then unlock the car with the remote, get back in and then it should start.

Check your fuses, that may be the culprit.

Since you didn't say, I assume you know it is an infrared remote that you must aim at the rearview mirror to make it do the lock and unlock thing, right? Never know when someone has had a car for years and when they just bought it yesterday. These cars have IR remote which requires you to be a good aim at the rearview mirror from outside the car - about the only thing I dislike in my 96 C220. Look at the remote while holding the pressure area - it should flash with a red LED when it sends the signal. If it flashes it is at least sending the pulse. No quick red flash though means bad battery contact, bad switch contact, or bad remote. I have set off my intruder disable numerous times and I have only had to just get out (irritating in public) lock and unlock from outside with the remote, then it corrects itself.

yea the red light in the fob comes on and i have put brand new batteries in it just to make sure. Its just when i press it it seems to confuse the car and makes both lights flash at the same time rather than just the green giving me entry to the car and emabeling me to start it!

That's just very strange. What does it do if you lock the car with the console switch, close all the doors, then use the key to unlock the driver's door from the outside and try to start it?

One other thing you might try which sounds strange is to lock everything with the switch, and close the doors, then go to the trunk and unlock it with the key itself (push in on the button as you twist the key). Sometimes this will disarm the alarm immobiliser. After unlocking the trunk with the key, you should also hear it unlock the doors. Close trunk then get in car and try to start it again.

This is what i hate about a thread, people invest time on helping other members, but the members, whether or not were able to help, deserve an answer, the forums increase knowledge....PLEASE keep us updated!!!!

Only the earlyer models of w202 have this k40 relay. On mine it`s not. Tresspassing immobilizer was an impossible task for me, because this job involves ECU, vacuum system, ATA system etc., all interconnected. No humble k40. So, forget it!

dudes,

already had my car serviced by a qualified technician. according to them the model that i have does not have the K40 we're talking about here.

anyway, thanks to them they did a resetting on everything and erased all the faults that appeared on the computer. luckily no parts required replacing.

i'll give you guys the whole score on what really happened and how did it came to be on the my car when i have enough time.

thank you for all those who gave their inputs.

till next time.

follow that STAR!

hello again,

we narrowed down the problem of the immobilizer always engaging and immobilizing the car.
we traced the problem to the power supply relay which has enough loose connection to make north and south korea blush, so we re-soldered everything down to the last components and viola, problem solved!

try replacing first the over voltage relay. i don't think the immobiliser is the problem since you described that the right in your rear view mirror flashes alternately.

the over voltage relay is located inside the engine room and inside the relay box where the terminal for the computer connection should be. it's easy to find it, it's the one with the fuse inside the round window.

post it here on the turn out.
