The SLS sounds great.

I drive Mulholland all the time in my P-car.

The film Leno refers to (Rendezvous) was taken off YouTube
Classic film of a high speed run thru Paris, if you have never seen it before.
The film was actually made using a Mercedes and then adding the Ferrari sound track over it.
Here's the film of the making of Rendezvous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHn5Q...eature=related

p.s., here's a real classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpo8R...eature=related

I *love* those roads...they make me happy about living in So Cal every time I drive them.

Strange to see Leno driving them in an SLS...if I didn't live in LA, I'd probably watch that video 100 times and daydream of what Mullholland must be like.

Awesome SLS!

I have some great roads here in NC (The Tail of the Dragon is a couple hours away) and also when I lived in CT, but I look forward to Mullholland every time I'm in LA, with a Hertz Vette at my disposal. I always stay in Calabasas, and I take the long way via Laurel Canyon/Mullholland from the airport just to have some fun on the way and avoid the 405.

My last LA trip for the year is on Monday, and I'm already looking forward to a great drive, with the V1 in 'A' mode, even though I've never run into any cops on any of my spirited drives.

Born there. Was there through the 40's 50's 60's 70's and from time to time to this date. Know every turn even in the dark. It wasn't unusual to see a Valvoline or STP or Powerine "Welcome Race Fans" banner strung between a couple of trees. Everything Leno said is true, but what he didn't talk about . . . well you just had to have been there. Now all I have is the Nordschleife (about an hour away)

Mulholland history bits

I live off the PCH very close to Mulholland Highway in Malibu (which is the continuation of Mulholland Drive west into the mountains; at one time you could drive the entire length but it's now disconnected at the 405.)

The pic in my sig is at the hairpins (the Snake) right before the Rock Store on Mulholland Highway; Leno hangs out there sometimes on the weekends.

Chris Banning was a pioneer renegade Mulholland racer with a chopped roof Porsche (the car was highlighted in PCA's Panorama a while back.) Chris wrote the classic book, "The Mulholland Experience." Great stories of the old days. Chris still owns the famous Porsche. Rumour has it he had to hide it inside his house from the cops. Carroll Shelby, James Dean, and Steve McQueen were also Mulholland drivers.

Jan and Dean's song, Dead Man's Curve, was about that famous curve on Mulholland Drive (and where Jan crashed his Corvette two years later and almost died.)

The cult film, King of the Mountain, with Dennis Hopper and Harry Hamlin is about the Mulholland Drive racers and two guys competing with each other in a Porsche and Vette.

Also Paramount Ranch Race Track was on Cornell Rd off Mulholland Highway where the Paramount film studios were located (now Paramount Ranch Park.) The track was world famous with racing Ferraris, Maseratis, Mercedes Gullwings, Lotuses, Porsches, Shelbys, (although probably not Shelbys since it was earlier, but more likely the Dick Jones Specials which are kinda the precursors to Shelby's cars; some say Shelby copied them.) It only lasted a short time and was closed in 1957. There's a book, Paramount Ranch Remembered, by Art Evans with tons of great pics and memorabilia. They also made a film about the track, The Devil's Hairpin, in 1957.

Very very cool. Amazing seeing the City and such familiar streets and houses so quiet and peaceful, minus the beastly exhaust of the SLS.

Great video, although Jay is talking too much...I just wanna hear that 6.2 growl the whole time. One of the reasons I want to live out there...beautiful road.

Duplicated the run today in a vette, man the roads are really going to hell, I hope they repave it sometime in the near future, but as broke as the state/county is, it is probably not high on anyone's list.

Was just talking about that actually. Those roads are a disaster, and with CA's state, probably not gonna get revamped for a loooong time, especially considering they haven't in a loooong time.

He was talking about how it's comparable to the Nurburg, while the car is hitting holes and rough surfaces that make you think that it would fall apart. Apart from that, he's definitely right though. Endless traffic aside.

that means you're damn near 70 and using the internet/forums... pretty cool!
