ABOUT GEICO AUTO INSURANCE

Because my Allstate insurance seems too expansive,so I am thinking to swith to Geico. Anyone have experience with Geico?

For reference, Geico gave the estimate price that half of the Allstate in my area (NYC), but without accident waiver program which I don't think I will need it anyway.( NO accident last 12 years)

I had switched to GEICO from Progressive. Haven't had any issues thus-far but I have been accident-free..

geico makes u go to their own shops for repairs. not a good idea.
try Liberty mutual , very cheap and they r recommended by MBUSA's website.
just switched my home and auto and saved a bunch of moolah.

Couldn't have a more opposite experience!

I was a loyal Geico customer without a break in insurance, who recommended them to everyone for 19 years. In September of this year I was able to get out of my 07 E350 lease. I was paying about $2000 per year fully covered with 100/300 limits no tickets, accidents or claims in over 7 years living in Brooklyn NY,( in a good part ort of Brooklyn). In Sept I got a great deal on an 09 S550 4matic. With the same coverages applied my rates went to $3200 per year from Geico. When I asked why they said the car warrants that rate. This led me to shop rates and eventually to Allstate. I got slightly higher coverages than with Geico and my rate for the year just under $2000 per year. Needless to say i switched to Allstate and put that savings toward my extended warranty. I really wanted to stay with Geico because of the Mechanical Breakdown coverage but it just made absolutely no sense to stay with them in my case.
I'm curious to know what your quotes are to see what variables exist that make Allstate not a good fit for you.

In New York Geico absolutely does not

make you use their repair shops. I am 100% sure they do NOT "make you" do this.

Geico does NOT make you use their repair shops, I know this first hand (it is also illegal). I had a claim, they handled it without any problems (actually was quite amazing how easy it was) and my rates did not go up. I have not had one single issue after 7-8 yrs with them other than they try to occasionally slip in "mechanical breakdown" and roadside assistance coverage (unneeded on a brand new car).

Good price, but good luck to anybody to insure this car in NYC for this price ...... I'm paying $900 per six months for my 2010 E350 with Allstate with 100/300 $1000 deductible and my driving history is clean....

Geico is terrible. 2nd rate insurance that denies and uses sub par repair shops. Any company that advertises as much as they do , has a high turnover.

If anyone needs more detail send me a PM, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM GEICO

Go with AAA,

Funny, went to my choice of shop, filled out one piece of paper, last I ever heard from them. Paid the shop, done (I did have an experience like that about 15 years ago with Nationwide though)....

FWIW- I pay $1100 for one year for max coverage on my E550. That's in Huntington NY....

BIG/HUGE difference in rates from NY counties to NYC

I changed my address from Massapequa Park NY to Brooklyn and my rates with Geico just about doubled. The coverages did not change, still I am a lucky Brooklynite who has a two car garage and still the rates went up. The reason for the increase I was told was the risk of claim is much greater in Bklyn as compared to Massapequa Park. Five years later still "waiting" to make my first claim.
The real interesting thing about Allstate according to my broker is that "older" Allstate customers pay more than new customers. It seems there are two Allstate companies, the old traditional company, and the new one with all the new advertising. My neighbor is an old customer, (btw we are both 45years old) having been with Allstate for 15 years has a 2004 Infinity G35x and pays more than I do for my 2009 S550 4matic. He called his broker to complain and she told him about the two companies. And we have the same coverages and exact homes, although I know my credit score are above 830, and don't know what his are.

I saw something similar a few years ago when I made a short term move to Franklin Square, my insurance did jump since it was closer to the city. It seems to be very common- the closer to the city the higher the insurance....

This is exactly correct. The way it works ( according to my broker ) - if you are a customer of old company - no matter what you do...any points..DWI..or anything - they have no right to throw you out from policy and they raise your rate just a little. New company customers can lose their policy if they did something terrible. I don't know if it's true...but I'll try to call to Liberty Mutual anyway. My two cars - E350 and Audi A4 cost me $1800 per 6 months in Brooklyn..in nice part of Brooklyn...and my house insured with them as well. I think it's too much. BTW - GEICO gave me quote - $2400 per 6 months ....... They all crazy... bunch of crooks..

They plain and simply SUCK the big Kahuna.

I had them - dropped them like a hot potato after the son's of *****es nickle and dimed me to death on a small rear end accident I had with my wife's Lexus GX470 (wasn't my fault either - got hit by a lunatic).

Aweful experience. You basically get what you pay for.

You want walmart insurance, go to Geico or Progressive.

I personally like Nationwide, Amica. I heard Farmers & Liberty are okay too.
