Good octane booster in Canada?

My questions is mostly addressed to fellow Canadians.

Since I can get 94 octane fuel at only some Petro Canada gas stations and the others have either 91 or 92 (and MB writes to use a minimum of 93) I'm looking into octane boosters.

I've read a lot about them on this very informational comparison site http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters.html

I think the best would be to go with Lucas Oil Octane Booster, but its 12$ a bottle at Canadian tire (bad pricing).

I've also read good things about Torco Accelerator.

Anyone knows of a shop or website that sells em for a decent price here?

I'm trying to think of alternatives. I suppose running 92 fuel is fine but 91 is pretty far off.

thanks!

I am interested in this as well. We can only get 91 in New Brunswick as far as I know and I am sure that will pull the timing way back. I would like to be able to get the best out of my C63 and I am sure that 91 will not allow it.

I have never run an octane booster and would be interested in any opinions from people who have. Brand preferences and inexpensive places to purchase would be helpful as well.

It's a great solution if you have no access at all to 93 octane, but in my situation, I will mostly need it when travelling far.

I guess I need to make a complete guide (gps favorites) in my car to every single petro canada that has 94 octane!

Just some quick math I did:

According to the review/comparison I read, a full bottle of lucas oil octane booster turned 93 octane fuel to 96.6 octane fuel for 10 gallons of gas.

The C63 tank is 17.4 gallons (although never that empty!), this would mean a full bottle would give a 2.11 increase in octane for a full tank.

Turning 91 octane fuel to 93 (and a little more taking into account it's probably 80% empty when you fuel up).

Also if you're pumping 92 octane, a half bottle would be fine to reach 93.

That seems like a plan!

You really think 93 octane is gonna make a noticeable difference? I doubt it. Husky has 94.

I don't know if I would bother with an octane booster. See if you can find somewhere that sells race gas instead..

Don't worry about the 93 in the Manual/Gas Door. That is the minimum RON rating.

In US/Canada, the octane rating at the pump is (RON+MON)/2 . The 91 at the pump is the same fuel as the one 4 points higher in Europe.

It mentions a minimum of 93 octane / 98 ron, not 93 ron.

thanks

If everything is set up to be mapped to 93 octane /98 ron by default and you are running 91, yes I do think there will be a difference, if not they would have asked you put 91.

How big of a difference, I have no idea. But that's not really the point. I just want to run the minimum MB requirements.

Problem is that Sunoco has been bought out by Suncor whose main player is Petro Canada, all the Sunoco gas stations are being converted to Petro Canada....good thing is, that all these Sunoco stations being switched to Petro Canada will still carry the Ultra94 gas....

I think 91 should be okay. Because in Cali you can only get 91 and I you see alot of 63's around here.

Is 93 or 91 mentionned in the US? I'm thinking this is either a 2010 thing or a Canada only thing.

thanks

While I am sure the car will run fine on 91 (at least I hope it will) I am sure that it will not run its strongest and I suspect it will run a detuned spark table to avoid KR and run a safe tune. I kind of hope that the manual will tell the tale. If not a little experimentation should.

It's different in each state, but most have just 91.

Has anyone done the maths to figure out if it's cheaper to buy a full tank of 93 or is it cheaper to buy 91 and add a bottle(s) of octane boost to get from 91 -> 93? Surely these are two very different markets, and given the price of gas these days I suspect there may be an arbitrage opportunity. I suppose there may be other factors that I'm not considering, but just a thought.
