300e stalling nightmare!

Hey guys I have been researching stalling problems other fellow MB owners are having and I can't seem to find the reason why my 89 300e keeps stalling. I have checked the fuel distributer for leaks and checked the engine for both vacuum leaks and injector leaks and the thing keeps stalling. I have unplugged the Idle Control unit and no change. I have also unplugged the temp sensor and no change. the OVP is working and so is the fuel pump relay. Can anyone give me some pointers on what might be happening to my Benz?

Does it stall when you make hard turns?

When you say the ovp is 'working' how did you establish that?

Unless you replaced it with a brand new one, you cannot rule it off.

There is a coil for the KE system, they fail also causing the car to stall. a friend of mine is dealing with this problem at this moment.....

No the car only stalls when standing still or at low rpms. The OVP Relay had a blown fuse in the car when I bought it thus making the car impossible to start without running the battery dead and jumping the car off after replacing the fuse I assumed it was working. I was working on the air conditioning yesterday and when the car started to shutter and shut off I noticed the ABS Light flashing. According to other threads there are two different types of OVP Relays one with one fuse on top and one with two fuses on top. Mine has the one fuse on it and I think it might have a bad connection in it to cause the car to run fine one minute and shutter the next. I am going to replace it with a new one and see what happens. Is the KE the Keyless Entry system? if so my car either is not equipped or I simply don't have the key fob. Also does anyone know what the hose is called that connects the water pump to the engine?

Stalling when coming to a stop

I had the same problem with my car and i took the air idle valve off and cleaned it out with carb cleaner and it hasnt done it since. your air idle valve could be clogged with carbon.

I checked and cleaned the IAC Valve but the car finally died. I owed money on it being that I bought it at a buy here pay here lot so I just told them to go get it off the side of the road. I couldn't figure it out and the nearest specialist was about 100 miles away so I said forget it!

I bet it was the air filter. I had the same stalling problems - changed the OVP relay, changed this, changed that. Nothing worked. Finally changed the air filter. Problem magically vanished. (No, I'm not kidding.)

haha that sucks you didnt check that first? or even when you change your oil? the problem was for me that the IAV was getting clogged with build up and it gor stuck and when i would hit the brakes and come to a stop after cruising it would just shut off. so i cleaned it out with carb clean and it hasnt done it except for 1 time and that was like 2000 miles later

I don't think that occurred to my mechanic

One extenuating circumstance: This happened last year, in the aftermath of the Station Fire here in SoCal. I'm in the heavy soot area near the fires. So the air filter got clogged with gunk a lot faster than the normal duty cycle.

ha well i guess if your not mechanically enclined then thats ok. mercedes are not as hard to work on as you think. im only 18 and had 3 years of mechanic experience. i mean i do have a 89 300e which isnt really as advanced as the 1990s model because of all the computer systems but i pretty much know how my entire car works. i only take my car to the pros for stuff that i cant do that requires special tools or i can just not do in a garage. or the wyotech parking lot lol. what kind of air filter were you using when the soot hit?

No idea. I think it was whatever Jiffy Lube installed last. lol

I'm a software guy. I can make computers bend to my will, but when it comes to hardware, I break sh*t. You do not want me anywhere near an engine bay. lol

Dude, the last thing you should ever do is take your MB to Jiffy Lube, you know how many times they've been busted for scamming customers either by charging for repairs that were not done, charging for repairs that were not necessary and the most scandalous one sabotaging cars so that they can then charge the customer for repairs.
