Did you try to remove the screws that are holding it in place?

if that is for the OEM MB lighting system, they only made one type, and it uses
a reflector design. so the bulb would be a D2R bulb. if you only replace one,
you run the risk of having one bulb operating at a different color than the other.
so if you can afford it, buy two. OEM only used Osram or Philips brands.

i don't one one but from the looks of your photo, use a Torx bit and loosen (not
remove) several turns. then, rotate that plastic fitting CCW and it should lift
off....giving you access to the bulb.

you don't need to unscrew the torx screws! this system are design to hold the bulb without remove nothing.. you only need to rotate the plastic yellow holder & lift off, after you would pull of the bulb.

The yellow holder sometimes is a bit hard to turn.. but don't scare it not crack if you turn them properly... turn it counter-clock to lift out

good to know, Fabio. considering that would be the only HID that I know of
which requires tools to remove the bulb...it occurred to me that the fastener
design used bordered on overkill.

Hahahahaha is pretty easy remove the HID bulbs in this case... in the first first Gen cars (97 - 98) with the big HID ballaster you need to remove 3 x 8mm bolts to lift out the bulb.. after cars has the easy design to remove the bulbs same ase the picture

It helps to unscrew the screws a turn or so, so it turns easy. I unloosened mine about 1/2 turn and I was still afraid I'd break the plastic. They were bother very much stuck. I unloosened another turn and only them was I able to turn the plastic retainer.

the bulb has a small wire going from the base to the end. I can't remember if the wire was supposed to be on the bottom or on top when putting the bulb back in the holder... any help is appreciated. thanks.

It is a general misconception that the screws need to be removed or loosened! The orange-colored-piece simply snaps over pins held in place with the screws. I've replaced D2R bulbs on both first generation- and facelift W210's and all you need to do is turn the orange-colored-piece. First turn and take off the large connector on the back of the bulb, then turn the orange piece which takes some force. The base of the D2R bulb has a notch so it cannot be mounted in a wrong manner. Good luck!

Thanks very much gentlemen. This helps a great deal. Off to the parts store tomorrow for a new XENON bulb. My 2000 E320 has the OEM XENON bulb option for the low beams.

Replace both bulbs mate (left/right).. If you replace only one you got a different color. Xenon bulbs need to be replaced as a pair

Just found two bulbs on Amazon.com for $44 each. That's a good deal.

Well, I replaced both of the the bulbs. My drivers side head lamp still did not work. I made sure the bulb worked by installing it on the other headlight. Looks like it is a bad ballast. I ordered a replacement universal ballast from here:

http://www.philipsxenon.com/philips-...ballast-p-1269

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Correct!!! As long as you turn it like you've got a pair, it will come right off!

Just grab it like a man and turn it!

Rotate counter clockwise...it needs a very firm twist. You shouldn't even have to loosen the three screws.

This happened to me. It turned out to be a bad earth (ground) to the lamp at that side. So I had to re-attach a bunch of brown wires.

You have a problem then...it is not likely to be available anywhere else except in a scrap car.
