I guess when we read about certain car manufacturers "reverse engineering" their cars around successful ones they aren't joking...

http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/tauv8supercharged/

Kinda obvious the South Koreans picked up on the E55 Kompressor setup.

If they offer it with a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty for 50,000.00, hopefully the Germans will reverse engineer that. . .

Look @ there CAI twin silicone type pipes merged into 1 opening behind headlight area...Look's like 3"-4" hefty dia piping. Blower/Surge tanks are close duplicates of you 55k guys rides

What a ripoff. I can see the e55 design copied with the BMW tail lights and with the new C class mirrors and etc. Too me it is a forgery and will never be a benz.

When did MB patent supercharging V8's..?? It does almost look like the same blower. The Genesis is totally a mash up of like 5 cars with no real uniqueness for sure. Great price for a nice car though.

Imagine if the bolt on mods just happen to fit on this car too... could see 500 WHP Hyundai's rollin around. Not sure how long they'll last but you'll have 500 WHP...

+1

Genesis is a complete Frankenstein ripoff, as are other elements of Hyundai design in some of their other cars. Let's see how it looks and drives after 50,000 miles.

Some items there that definitely look familiar. Though not a personal fan of Hyundai, they have come a long way in terms of engineering and knowing what the public would like in an automobile. I have to say the Genesis coupe is a nice looking ride.

Durability wise they also have gained a lot of ground. Like I said, not a huge fan for ownership personally, but as car company they have had a lot more exciting offerings than a lot of other manufacturers.

Isn't that how they make their cars so cheap. They source parts from multiple manufacturers. Nothing is custom to them ?

Asians always copy German engineering. They did it with cameras and optical equipment. Fact is they ended up doing it cheaper and less convoluted. And that's where they scored. Now they rule (sales-wise) that segment. It's happening with performance cars, too.

Steal all the R+D and mass produce it and make it cheaper. That's their mindset.

This Hyundai is the equivalent of a fake Taiwanese Rolex.

The people you give a sh*t about will know the difference.

A Prius because I'm green
One comes in to my work and I had to search it again this Monday. It's just the regular V8 but the first thing I noticed was the look of a Lexus GS with the side molding and the S class style center dash. THe leather is hard and looks nice but feels cheap. No where near the Benz leather, hell my car is 5 years old and it's still softer then it and much nicer overall. It's ok for the price but no thanks. I was stationed in SK and they have companies that make a variety of things. I saw the same name on buslines, tires, electronics, it was ridiculous! No market control at all.

Oh yea and guess where the main battery is at?

Totally agree. I have been buying products for my online business from China for 5 years now and they can get anything for 1/20 of the price of the original; they are not inventive, but clever at scheming, stealing, and copying others ideas. Now of course you need to watch out for those who do counterfeiting, but a lot of their non-branded items are 100% copies of popular brands.

No I wasn't getting at that. It's just the setup with the surge tanks. Ford and most others integrate the intake manifold with the intercooler so there aren't any surge tanks.

Chinese Copies

Koreans maybe good at copying, but they are amateurs when it comes to Chinese reverse engineering super copying technology

Here is a copy of the BMW X5

Brought to you by....

Here is the C-Class vs the Chinese copy....

Real SMART car Vs Chinese SMART car...

Even Toyota couldn't escape this.....

Wow--the pictures are incredible--not even trying to hide the copying. Still, how will the ripoffs function over time? My wife's ML has 120K, 10 years of salted roads and harsh winters, and the exterior has the expected nicks and scratches, but the interior is amazingly pristine, almost like a new car, and the ride is incredible. And no major repairs--service, and a few predictable repairs (and the early MLs are not exactly known for their reliability). Are these ripoffs built with the same specs, materials, and quality workmanship? Will these makers offer awards for their 500,000 mile vehicles?

By the way, that Chinese C-Class copy was supposed to be debut in the U.S. for just under $12,000
