Blower fan won't shut off, draining battery

The other day my blower fans would not shut off. I did not realize until the morning when the car was dead. I called mb roadside assistance and the mechanic said the fans were not shutting off. In fact, the motor was not operating properly. The fan motor was replaced about 3 years ago. I don't know what the problem is, but I really don't want to replace the entire unit if it is a regulator or something minor. Any suggestions?

It's the speed regulator for the blower motor. They fail and then the motor will not turn off as the power to the fan motor is always hot. Disconnect fan until you can get a new regulator in there. You will not have heat or defrost, but your battery will not die in the meantime.

Best price, but you may need other parts as well. Regulator/resistor was upgraded for certain W210 vehicles. I think there was a way to adapt a new wiring pigtail to the old motor, old pigtail to new resistor or something like that to keep from having to buy the new plate and blower motor.
