Very common issue.
It resides under the passenger carpet.
Its made by Becker. Unplug the red connection/plug.

Leave the RED plug alone

DO NOT unplug the RED Plug. It IS for the airbag/SRS!

That's why MB put a warning label about it on the plastic cover. That's why it RED!

Only unplug the two black plugs from the Becker module.

Disable or disconnect E320 E420 E300 alarm

For future reference, the red plug has never been related to the alarm, “facelift” or not. Every airbag-equipped 124 vehicle has an Attention label on the black metal cover plate identifying the red plug as part of the airbag and seat restraint system. If it’s unplugged, the red SRS lamp in the dash lights up warning about a problem with the airbag/SRS.

As many know, the original alarm system could be disabled by disconnecting the two black plugs from the Becker alarm control module under the metal plate in the passenger-side foot well.

In 1993, MB added an ignition kill feature to the alarm system, controlled by a relay behind the instrument cluster. So if you disconnect the two black plugs from the Becker alarm module, the car won’t start.

Here’s a link to someone who figured out a work around to disable the 1993+ alarm system while still allowing the car to start:

If you do this, post back how it worked for you

ds190, you are correct. I misspoke. (It's been a while since I did mine)
I meant to say the black little box, in the following picture it is located to the upper left of the alarm box.

That will disconnect the alarm, but as you mentioned, the 2 plugs will as well.

U can also pick up 2 paint can openers from
home depot for free to pull the instant cluster for
free that will work just ad good as they have the same hook.
