Exclamation Update - C63 AMG Black Series Coupe - 507HP & 6.3

Hey guys,

Here is an update just in case you missed it. I was expecting more HP but we'll see when MB gives the final word. Rumor has it, the car will be featured at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

According to Benzinder.com the latest addition to the Black Series family will be powered by a 6.2 liter V8. This engine is similar to the one in the current C63 AMG and is said to deliver 507 horsepower, exactly the same amount of power as in the CLK63 AMG Black Series.

So in essence, it's a C63 coupe with a tune and a widebody?

One positive is that thats a bigger incremental gain over the stock C63 at 451hp (thats still the power output of standard car isnt it) than the CLK BS (507hp) was over a stock CLK63 (481hp).

Bit of a joke that for a moderate expense you can tune a stock C63 to over 550hp - way beyond whats mooted in this article. However, the handling of a Black Series car simply cant be replicated though...and its sure to look tough as hell

Maybe you are right about the handling and tough looks... but you'll stop being that positive about it when you see the Australian price tag on the C63 BS

For sure it's gonna be a great track car, but don't you think it might be a little rough to drive as a dd?

People who buy these cars and do things to them USUALLY are in it for the hobby/long run/experience so not too many constantly being sold.

And look at what happens when you sell. People bought BS in 08 New for $127-138k. 3 years later they are selling for around $70k with miles in the teens...Depreciation is insane! If you have money to throw around, more power to you. I bought my C63 AMG brand spankin new 11 miles and am gonna keep it. It has been an awesome experience thus far...

Well 90k is promising but the hp is a let down. Hard to say, have to see the final product. If it's available in four doors I think they will sell better???? At $100k it's gonna have to look amazing. That's basically 20k over a P031 car which will be hard to justify. Also makes me think more on the clk bs??? Time will tell. I'm sure it will be bad *** regardless.

I was expecting HP to be around 520 at least so it is a big let down. However, 99K sounds much better than 140k so with it's exclusivity being limited to 100 units, it will sell fast!

Still waiting for more credible info though, anything can change at this point.

They should've at least given it the 518 hp as in the S/SL/CL 63 models or better yet 550 hp

CLK63 Black Series
If Mercedes indeed has intentions of bringing 100 examples to North America and offers it for $99K - assuming it will have the same track worthy upgrades as the CLK63 BS, it will be a bargain. Personally, I doubt it. To certify only 100 cars, it will be a financial loss at that price point for them. Unless it will be along the lines of what Porsche did with it's '98 Carrera S. All you got was a wide body.

Another problem will be leasing it. When the CLK63 BS was new, no other bank than MBZ offered a lease. If I recall correctly, the best scenario was a 27 month lease with a monthly payment of $3600. One of the reasons the car didn't exactly fly off the shelfs.

Even at 100K, I would not go for it. A GTR or a one year old GT3 will still spank it for that money.
It will still sell for the few who have too much money in their pockets but it will not be a hit.
Now if they had put 600hp and be a true competition to the F, L and P cars, it would have made sense.
It is a "fail" in my eyes if this comes out like advertised.

What I like!
I'm sure MB is doing its best to strike a dollar/performance ratio that will make the car desirable.

The weak dollar and cheapash American buyers don't help our case much tho...

If the sticker price is $99K for the C63 BS, would you also look into Nissan GT-R, or pay a little few extra money and look into Maserati GranTurismo?

When this hits the streets, will the CLK63 get a good depreciation hit? I've been keeping an eye on it for sometime.

The CLK63 black series had KW coilovers so if they do something similar, the handling can be replicated fairly easily.

The KW V3 suspension is really night and day from stock. Add a good LSD like OS Giken (much better then the one MB uses) and I don't see a whole lot the black series can have in terms of handling, unless they radically lower the weight... still the wider body will be great for wider tires.

Anyone know if the 4 door BS is a go yet or was it just used for testing?

I can only assume that since the SLS has 560 HP and the SL 63 has 518 HP, it's only natural that the C63 BS would have less than both since its price is less than 100k.

Having said that, still really disappointed to see less HP in this Black Series than a C63 DR520.
