Why does my AC blow colder on passenger side then driver side?

Hello boys, Ok the strangest two things just started occurring with my AC.
1. it blows colder on the passenger side then driver side and
2. After I shut the car down just for a few min and restart the AC blows hot as hell before it gets cold. I understand it takes time for the AC compressor to kick on but damn it blows hot just after a few min of the car being off. Any suggestions?

Low on freon. 100%. Its a classic symptom. You can charge it yourself with some R from Autozone just make sure it does NOT have the auto seal junk in it.

Forgot what it's called but it's dupont or something. Just make sure it doesn't have any sealer.

Quick charge and she will be good as new.

That is also what i was thinking, but why would it blow ice cold on the passenger and slightly less on driver side. If it was low on freon it should not blow cold at all on one side. Doesn't One AC compressor run both sides? if one side blows cold then so should the other side?

Its a Benz thing....trust me. I battled AC trouble for years and replaced EVERYTHING but the evap. For some reason when the car is low on freon, it is more focused on the pass side.

Unlike American cars for sure.

Quick charge and she will be even on both sides. IMPORTANT to just use one can. Put in 1/4 to 1/2 at first and feel it out. Too much (more than one can over) can be deadly for these systems. If she still doesn't work you have other trouble. Near positive a charge will have you happy through the summer.

Benz stealer has a machine that fills it up with proper pressure/amount but expect rape prices for sure.

Just take it to any garage that has ac refill in the window.you dont have to go to the dealer and spend 500 when it can be done for 100 bucks at a reg shop.

Low pressure is the large one on the right. The cans with the hose wont connect the small high pressure port.

Dont forget to run the car and have AC cranking on high when you fill.

Sorry to overpost. Just thoughts popping in as I am working.

LAST THING. Do NOT turn the can upside down when filling. If the can goes ice cold and stops flowing, don't tip her upside down. That is the old way of thinking/filling it and you don't want liquid going into that gas line.

Just a heads up.

Thanks Jakepro...do you happen to know what the pressure is suppose to be at? I know to much pressure in the system can cause the AC not to work come on.

Do you have gauges? If so I can take a reading of mine and let you know what I have.

Otherwise don't sweat it too much about overfilling. Just throw in a half can and she should be fine. I have actually overfilled mine to where it activated the blowoff valve. In my face too. That was fun. System is fine so they are pretty tough.

Warning though, you may have a small leak somewhere. If she comes back after this, time to start sleuthing with a sniffer for where it's coming out.

By large one you mean large diameter PIPE, not large fitting correct? I am looking at it right now and the large pipe has a fitting on the right(towards the passenger compartment), but the fitting on the left has a small diameter pipe with a large fitting. Just checking as I don't want to connect to the high pressure port in any way.

Here ya go. It's this one. Quick cell pic so forgive the qual. Sorry if I confused. Was taking it all from memory. One on the right 100%. Don't even think the Autozone kits would connect to the other port. No worries.

So I have this problem and I added refrigerant and immediately the temp drops on the driver side and the passenger side, but they never get to the same temperature. The driver side stays in the mid 50s while the passenger side goes to 44 and stays. Are they supposed to get to the same temperature?

Most likely, you have a heater shut-off valve sticking or stuck partially open. If you have good pressures in the system as per this chart and evaporator temp(measured at the vent with the coldest output) then your shut off valve is sticking. Remember that on a 211 if you have the AC on, then the car opens the corresponding port of the heater shut off valve to raise the vent temperatures of the side that requests the warmer temperature. It is a $50 part, and it is under the wiper mechanism on the drivers side.

Yeah they are supposed to be the same or at least close.

2 options. You take it Benz and have them fill with the correct amount of freon so you know how much you are supposed to have. Their machine will add and subtract until it is OEM.

Or and/or I guess its have them do that valve or take a whack at it yourself. Directions and good ones on the forum on just how to do it. Takes a couple hours for your first time.

Yes it could be that heater valve.

In my opinion, not enough coolant added but I sure as heck am not gonna be irresposible and say add more!

Do you all have the heater valve part number on hand? I'm thinking it's the valve and not the freon.
