wind noise

I was driving a 2011 c300 for a week since my car was being serviced at my local mb dealership and noticed that cabin noise on the 2011 is so much quieter than my 2010. I told my dealer about the noise and they replaced my driver side window run seal but when I was driving the car tonight it still sounds like before not a bit quieter. Is this normal or should I send my car back go them?

I had that in my 2008, wind noise came from the sunroof and the window/door (not exactly sure where). delaer tried several times to adjust the sunroof but that never got fixed. never brought it in for the window/door.

my 2011 is fine so far

Can't find the article, but soon after the original W204 came out engineers admitted that the size, shape, and height of the side mirrors would cause noticeable wind noise at highway speeds.

Sometime between 2009-2010 they started replacing the mirrors with a smaller and more streamlined design at a height one or two inches below the pre-2009 mirrors.

I have an '09 that I picked up in august of '08 that still has the original mirrors. With the radio off the noise is considerable, but the optional H&K sound system means that my radio is almost NEVER off!

Mirrors are an issue, as I also discovered after driving a newer loaner. But, you can also check to be sure that only your driver's door window seal was the issue. Here was my experience:

If the mirrors are the cause of the problem shouldn't MB be entitled replace out mirror for free since it's a defect on their part?

There is no standard by which they would be considered defective. The subsequent design is an improvement, and all manufacturers have the right to improve new product without incurring liability to upgrade older designs. Imagine the consequences if applied otherwise across an entire vehicle. Due to the overall improvement, one could eventually argue a 203 is "defective" compared to the 204!!

Not your fault, as that distinction is not the issue, as you're suggesting an inherent design defect, not a sample defect just in your car. But, the part is in the condition as originally designed and satisfies the purpose for which it was intended. Compare that to the warped window seals which also generated wind noise, but represent a variation from the design intent. The old style mirror performs at the design intent; the new one was designed to a higher standard, but that does not make the old one "defective". If a sufficient inherent design problem does occur in a vehicle which causes the basis of an individual or class action, the plaintiffs would have to prove that the failure makes the part or car not capable of performing the purpose for which it was intended. Some extra wind noise would likely not support that claim. If every C Class had a mirror shake itself loose and fall off, that would come a lot closer.

Sportstick, after you had those window seals replaced have you noticed if the new parts have started to warp at all?

I just went to the garage to check, and they are as good as the day they were (re)installed, which is not perfect, but far better than the originals. The SA explained that the way they are shipped, they have a little curl to them which doesn't go away 100%. But, the car became much quieter after installation and has not deteriorated again.
