Where to buy transmission fluid??
Hey guys my local stealership is trying to charge me $24 a liter for the fluid which I think is absolutely ridiculous. I've looked online but can't seem to find the fluid. can anyone point me in the right direction so I don't get completly ripped off and spend almost $300 just on fluids 
btw has anyone tried non-oem fluids in their tranny? I was wondering if redline products would be okay to use?

At the time, I also did oil change so I end up paying total $400. Maybe you should ask different dealer.

Yea I ended up taking it to my indy, he charged me $35 to flush the system and $12 a quart

Couple of things to add:
Redline has two options: D4 and D6 with D6 being lower viscosity for meeting specs of 236.12 which MB has stated can be used in the 5 speed trans and 7 speed as well.

If I recall correctly us E55 owners have a a 722.6 trans in our cars.
Also, SRT-8s use a derivative of the 722.6 transmission in their cars and many of them run RedLine and Royal Purple fluid. Question next would be about their Chrysler ATF fluid in ours trans. Though I would prefer having something other than a Chrysler label on the shelf. I'm funny that way.

What Fluid Can I Use For The 722.6 Transmission?
Well, there is a short answer, an intermediate answer, and a long answer.
The short answer is that you just use the genuine Mercedes ATF for the 722.6 or the 722.9 transmissions. You will not lose any sleep during the night and there are three different fluids you can use in the W210 722.6 transmission. (These fluids cost approximately $12 - 15 per liter).
MB 236.10 sheet - ATF 3403, aka 722.6 fluid (MB Part # 001-989-21-03-10)
MB 236.12 sheet - ATF 3353, aka 722.9 fluid (MB Part # 001-989-45-03-10)

Mercedes always recommends the latest fluid for the 722.6 transmission but there is nothing wrong to use the older fluids (your car came with the 236.10 fluid).

AutoHausAZ has the "old" or I should say, they had the original 5 speed ATF as of last March.
I have seen posts that claim the new ATF for 7 speed is reverse compatible to the 5 speed, but members that have tried the new fluid state, poor shift quality.
Just saying, I bought 18.

thanks for the heads up pearlpower, how did the royal purple perform in your trans? I heard our 722.6 can be rather delicate with fluid types.
that $4 quart Shell 134 has been out of stock for over a year now, I don't think they carry it anymore.

Awesome deal, thanks for the heads up. With my trans rebuild I already had a case left, but at this price ordered 36 more units for garage stock.
I was reading elsewhere that this is actually 100% synthetic and the same fluid that Benz uses. Unsure, however my local MB repair shop uses this in bulk. But then when I asked them a few questions about the transmission, they sort of looked at me like I arrived from Mars-so who knows. Either way, great price.

To be honest, I was not able to give the Royal Purple an accurate test. The car had a slight engagement delay so I changed out the fluid/filter with the Royal Purple, everything was fine however shortly after things got worse.

I do not attribute the failure to the Royal Purple, just the bushing went out and I suspect was already on it's way out prior which resulted in the lower oil pressure explaining the engagement delay. Since I had to rebuild the trans, I bought the Shell instead as reviews were good and the price is much less vs. the RP. So $114 of Royal Purple down the drain.
Shifts with the RP while it was in the car were no different and I would not hesitate to run it again, just the price difference IMO is not justified. And at the 1.72, WOW, get in and buy.
