Brake replacement cost

I was talking to a Mercedes sales associate who told me when your brake pads wear out on a c63 they replace the rotors as well and the cost is $6000. Any truth to this? Is there a difference in price for the brake "job" between the regular c63 and the c63 with the performance package?

Aftermarket is much less expensive. Search this section, discussed previously.

Its a bloody scam.

If your rotors are not warped and they dont pulse. Just throw new pads on from formymercedes.com (porterfield RS4) is what I did and it worked flawlessly.. Cost me 450 bucks compared to $4000 or so at the dealer lol.

In Canada, the brakes are fully covered for 2 years. No Charge replacement.

My service rep hinted that if I use up those brakes (for some unknown reason ) , do it before the two years are up.

They have warranty, which doesn't cover wear and tear. 40k km cap. It doesn't mean you can have them replaced because they are wore out....

Not correct for Canada... the first 2 years of the warranty covers ALL wear and tear including brake pads and rotors. I also had this confirmed with the dealer and it's in the warranty book as well.

I'd like to know how to get the rotors to wear out in the 22nd month. I'm sure I can polish off a set of pads but would love to get new rotors around that time too

There is a "WEAR AND TEAR PERIOD: (caps from Service and Warranty Information 2010 book from MB) The following parts listed are covered for wear and tear during the first 24 months or 40,000 km whichever comes first. BRAKE PADS, BRAKE DISCS, BRAKE WEAR SENSORS AND LIGHT BULBS."

Looks like brakes are covered for wear for 24 months or 40K km.

Cars.
In the US, brakes are not covered. We do get 4 years/50,000 miles for anything else, though.

K so I go to the track and wear out my pads and rotors and u think the dealer is gonna give you new ones???

Or Im driving aggressive on the street and wore out my pads in 2 years under 40k km and the dealer is just going to buy me new brakes?? lol

I tried this, they said no.

I had very little left on the pads at 35000km.. And as we know the dealer replaces rotors with pads.. I didnt get new brakes. They said I needed new brakes and tried to schedule me in for them..

They have warranty for noise, not working correct, etc.. But using you car doesn't mean the dealer is going to buy you a brake job.

I am not doing my rotors of brake pads anytime soon, I am at 21000 miles but it looks like I have brakes to reach the 40000 mile mark. At that point I will resurface the rotors and buy just brake pads replacemnts, I am guessing it will all cost me less than $500.

My second option would be buying a two piece rotors from an aftermarket company.

That Mercedes sales associate is full of it. Rotors will last a long time if the car is not being tracked regularly. Hell, at 6k you can buy the Brembo Gran Turismo BBK.

The only difference in price would be if its 1 piece or 2 piece OEM rotors.
If your not getting these rotors at cost I would highly recommend going with after market 2 piece rotors which are lighter and cheaper then OEM.

You may not want to believe it because you had a bad experience but you aren't correct. If you are in Canada then your dealership did not deal with you correctly as it is absolutely covered under warranty. Any brake work including wear and tear is covered in the first 2 years. Check the warranty booklet. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the dealer on this but whether your experience reflects it or not, wear and tear items (including brakes) are included under warranty for 24 months/40k in Canada. It is clearly documented in the book and confirmed by the service manager at the dealership.

Link to MB Canada where it notes wear and tear is covered for 2 years... the warranty booklet gives more detail ... http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content/...anty.0001.html

If I were you I would ask a MB workshop for a qoute because that 6000$ number is abnormal.

I live in the Netherlands were a C63 roughly costs 150.000 dollars but I just picked up new rotors and pads for the fronts and the front rotors were 290 Euro (380Dollar) per SET! I must say I was supprised how cheap they were.
For my previous car (Audi S5) they were rouglhy double that and were just standard brakes, not as big and no drilled holes etc

amg brakes typically last a lot longer than regular cars because they are huge and most people dont use them as intended. Rotors may last one set of pads, typically 2 or 3. just depends on the wear, there is a run out and minimum width spec. If you have the performance package then you have the 2pc rotors which run around 1200$ each for the fronts. pads are around 200$. the non pp rotors are around 5-600$ i believe. So the sales man isnt way out of line but that's a horrible selling point? most of the amg's that arent tracked brake's last 50k mi before needing pads. Id love to hear this guy sell people on carbon ceramic rotors lol. Sure they are expensive as hell (15-20k$) but in most cases the rotors out last the car. or SLR Mclaren rotors 20k$ EACH. lol. bottom line is this is an 80k$ car. The brakes aren't cheap. If you want cheap brakes go buy a honda. You aren't buying some economy box built to save you money, you are buying a luxury toy that's by no means a necessity.

Regular C63 rotors are actually quite cheap - about $150. You're right though that the p30 2-piece rotors and p31/507 "1.5 piece" rotors are more like $800.

No way carbon ceramic brake rotors should cost that much. there has to be a supplier that is not held to some contract by MB. Surely thye couldn't cost more than 6,000.00 us. It would seem 4,000.00 would be the reasonable amount and probably even cheaper. We're not talking Boeing airliner here.

This and that.
I am so scared of the brake job whenever the time comes. I am at 46000 km's, not sure how much longer before I have to replace them. I am hoping at first it would just be the pads and not the rotors too. Anyway to tell how you're brakes are holding up? Mine squeal and scream every now and then when I apply them Hope it's not a sign that they need to be changed.

Not true - this is at the discretion of the dealer. I have had them covered before for "unusual wear"...
