Headers install, heat shield removal

Hey guys,

did a search and just foudn that it's 'OK' to remove heat shield while installing long tubes/midlengths. But couldn't find more in depth explanations giving us more of a peace of mind on how removing heat shield would really 'not harm' the car part the shield was meant to protect from the start.

Please elaborate guys! Because right now one side of my headers are touching/grazing the heat shield and I am given two options by my tech, a) remove the heat shield or b) bend the header pipe a few degrees to avoid the heat shield.

I searched and learned that option A is 'OK' but would be great if i can find a more in depth explanation on how its ok to run car without heat shield!

Thanks
