changed fluid on 94 s320

94 mercedes s320
changed fluid on 94 s320
i just changed the transmission fluid on my s320 including filter
and also emptied converter. I added fluid and changed each gear as instructed
now when i go on highway the last gear wont change. i checked fluid it shows over the max point. i drained some to make it to the maximum point. when i drove car would barely take any gear. when i added drained oil it start taking gears fine except the last one. i think theres about 7L of castrol ATF dexron lll
what could be the problem. please help

You should have a 722.605 transmission, it has an electric valve body, you have to run Fibe # 22806 dexron III-H or MBZ A001 989 21 03 10. The fluid has to be non conductive. Also you may have not installed the filter correctly. that would make it need a higher fluid level to suck up the fluid. The bad news, Febi is about $13 a liter and the MBZ stuff is about $16 a liter. People try using the dexron III, it works a while. somtimes it wrecks the transmission and the valve body. I have seen the electronics also fried from the shorts to ground on the valves.

OK. If you check the Elrctronic part catalog it shows that a 1994 s320 built for North Am. can have either a 722,508 or a 722.605. If your filter is a little square edge filter you have the 722.508 if the filter is a oval filter with a tube and o-ring that clips into place by pressing it. It's a 722.605 transmission. If you post your vin I can look up all of your build info. If you have the 605 trany often all that is wrong is the o-rings that seal the sylonoids into the valve body. let's figure out which trany you have first.

Well, well,well, in August 2008, i decided to have the dealer change the tranny fluid and filter on my 1994 mercedes s320 ...my car only had 109200 km and driven properly for 15 years without any problems whatsoever. Since, then I put another 16,oookm and guess what, my reverse does not work any more when the tranny fluid warms up. This is nonsense! Did the mechanic at the dealer screw around with my tranny? What do I do now?

Ok, but will this atf fluid fix the reverse issue on my Merc S 320 1994 swb ? The car drives beautifully except for reverse. It will not move once the tranny has warmed up! Never experiened such an anomolie with autos in my 30 years of driving experience. The mechanic must have screwed with my tranny...i am convinced.

I'd hate for you to spend money to re fill your trans will atf.It sounds like when your fluid when its cold and thick your tranny works.I would try drain a quart out,and use the best trans additive for skipping trans.Other wise it sounds like its time for a rebuild.
If it works you might have wrong fluid.Some ATF are made to slip,and ATF Max for older trans do slip

yes no fluid that will fix reverse,but It was fine till he changed,could it be a part fell out,or overfilled and wet the wiring.Conductor plate?
I'm throwing out possible causes,how ever mercedes trans always lose reverse first, the ones that asked me.If I can't fix it right,I can rig it.
