mercedes cls 320 d

DPF BLOCKED

hi

urgent helped required please -
CLS 320d 2055 model -

dealer had the car at the weekend as EML light was on - advised DPF is blocked so a manual regeneration was needed - dealer tried this and still showing blocked -
advised a replacement DPF is needed.

option -

buy new DPF £1800
steam clean DPF
Remove dpf and remap ECU.

your advise would be appreciated

why did the DPF get blocked, if you buy a new one and it gets blocked too would be a waste.
maybe its just the sensor that reads blocked?

What kind of driving do you do (a lot of stop and go)?
You cant steam clean the DPF inside, that gets done using a special machine that bakes it and then blows air through it.

DPF sensor Was changed by dealer in July 11.

I do motorway driving 50 miles a day.

Not sure if it is going to be steam cleaned but the garage cleans DPF filters on merc sprinter vans.

Dealer said it is totally blocked as car is in limp mode fulltime

I have spoken to a software company who can remove filter and update software for £400

Thanks, makes all the sense in the world to me. The illustration was great. I guess that's why I do not see Black Smoke coming from Mercedes diesels anymore.

Driving in a stop and go traffic will do the most trouble in getting it sooted up,it needs to get up to temperature and stay there for the soot to burn off.

What is the fuel quality that you are using and are you using any additives?
What kind of engine oil are you using, it has to be low ash engine oil.
Engine oil in the exhaust is also a well known culprit in taking out the DPFs .
I dont know the emission laws in your neck of the woods, but removing and bypassing the dpfs sound cheaper then replacing it with a new one.
