Unhappy Paint all over the interior.....

Does anybody know how to clean up paints on cloth, leather, carpet, plastic, viynle, and metal??

I bought a spray paint and put it inside the car, but it somehow got caught under the seat. I didn't know so when I adjust the seat it punched a hole on the can and the paint blew out like a jet engine........

And I was even stupid enough to take out the can while it was blowing.... so paint is practically everywhere.......

Really, truly distressing. If it's not dry yet, go after the vinyl with mineral spirits/ turpentine/ paint thinner. Lacquer thinner will probably attack the vinyl, so not a good idea. I have no idea what to do with the cloth.

Will your insurance cover it?

try mineral spirits, try it on discrete area first (the plastic) and then u can attack the whole vehicle. That really sucks man. Please let me know how it turns out!

terrible no shampooing will help. I would suggest a insurance claim maybe to get a new interior its going to be extremly hard to remove even if its removed you will still see the outline of where it was.

If mineral spirits are too harsh (they can dull the plastic), try a turpine based cleaner or even an oily substance can loosen paint.

God, this sucks.

Thanks for the sympathy guys!

I'm able to rub off the paint on the plastic with regular paint thinner - but not sure if it would dull the surface or not as it's dark at night and I don't want the paint to set any longer before trying to get it off.

Any tip on what to use on the cloth and carpet? Will mineral spirit help??

Dude, call the insurance company...I think they will replace your interior for your deductable...

I know my company has a clause about rain water, dust/dirt, and other materials that damage more then X amount of the interior.

Good luck,
Erik

Are you sure that comprehansive will cover such thing? I know it'll cover key jobs, winshield, etc. I can't get the paint off the fabric and carpet, so I need a new door panel and all of the seats...

Guess the best way to get an answer is to ask the insurance directly hehee~~

OMG! Dude, that sucks

Try some of that orange crap. Forgot the name, it's available at like Autozone. God, forgot the name....Orange something....hmm, lemme look it up quick.. Fast Orange! That's it. It's supposed to be an abrasive, so hopefully it'll get that paint out.

It's been like a couple of days already. If it were me, instead of posting here and waiting for resopnses, I would have rushed it to the nearest good detailing shop to see what they can do. By now the paint has pretty much dried up.

OT: I hae a feeling the pics will end up on someone's "owned" collection.

HOLY

I thought it was vandalism when I saw the pics, but then I read what you wrote.

seats you'll probably have to replace. The dashboard and panels, you can probably try paint thinner like everyone says. I doubt you can clean up the steering wheel btw.

Actually I've gotten all the paint off from the plastic parts, and will take the car for a comprehensive quote tomorrow. If the estimate is high, I'll just take the check and then get a leather conversion!

Lightbulb What I would do....

My wife owns a sign company. She uses this stuff called "Rapid Remover" for removing vinyl decals and anything with an adheisive backing. The actual substance is non-toxic and smells like citrus. But damn, the stuff cuts through anything that is plastic adheisive like butter. I bet it would be safe on your seats and dash. Remember, most paint is just plasic. You can probably find this stuff at any local sign shop supplier. Good luck!

If you have to try this (presumably because the insurance co won't cover the damage), I suggest doing it first on a small piece of fabric in an inconspicuous spot.

Please let us know when you make some more progress.
