First Kill: Modded F10 550i

Out to our evening tennis match with my girlfriend and a brand new black 550i whips past us. Right off I spied Dinan exhaust and aftermarket wheels, confirmed that, an airbox and a tune speaking with the guy at the stoplight. My '05 C55 is stock with K&Ns at the moment, both my girlfriend and I in the car and the BMW pilot was solo.

The light changes and I accelerate with WOT right off the bat, but no preload against the brakes (S mode/EPS ON) Some light wheelspin from both cars, and I pull on him by about a half car length by the end of the intersection. By 50 or 60 mph I was a full car length ahead, we stuck like that up until I shutdown at about a buck because of traffic a couple hundred yards up. It was late enough that there was no commute traffic and I live in a sleepy wide open neighborhood.

Looking up the F10 550i I am surprised by their power figures, and quite pleased with my C55!

A biiit confused here.

A tune on a Twin Turbo V8 550i F10 nets 500 hp+ easily and more torque...

That's how it went down. I can confirm the Dinan exhaust, but if he indeed had it tuned- I guess he should shoot his tuner

Nice kill. The new 550's are no slouch and have improved over the previous generation.

He was playing with you . A new tuned 550i would have left you for dead.

On some Hyundai forum right now there is a post from a Sonata owner that he took me the on-ramp to 285 Thursday morning. Paying it forward.

Sorry man but I don't think he was trying. Those BMW engines are beasts, with a tune and exhaust you're talking about a 500+ hp car. And we all know BMW's have no trouble off the line.

I think the driver in the BMW wanted you to impress her because he felt bad that she was impressed by him and his beautiful new 550i while she was driving with you in your C55. So out of respect he let you win. I joke!

I believe the OP's story if it was a manual transmission. Check out the video of a Dinan tuned 550i. In the video the guy screws up a shift. I think this may be a case of the OP beating the driver rather than the car. On paper the F10 550i tuned should be much faster than the C55.

^I'm sorry but why offer a manual stick option in a heavy electric steering F10 5 series??

Have you ever driven the F10 with electric steering? I'd argue it's still better than my Mercedes and just about most other cars I've driven.

Even though I haven't driven an F10 5 series, I've seen and heard enough reviews from owners that the electric steering really takes away the feel and some of the precision.

Notice how some people are saying the E63 AMG PP V8 Twin Turbo has slightly BETTER steering feel and precision than an F10 M5 and whatnot despite the F10 M5's standard hydraulic rack and pinion system... When has THAT ever happened in the past?? Electric steering is worse I can imagine.

On a side note I had a little run with a F10 M5 with my C63. M5 got me by a fender. M5 had less then 1k miles. These new TT m5 are monsters.

Now I saw Propain's Zo6 eat your lunch in those videos you guys posted. In this video you now have a stock F10M5 racing a tuned Zo6 running side by side, Now you're gonna tell us that the new F 10 had you by a fender M5 only in a rolling start?

I'm confused! Was'nt that Zo6 you raced stock as well and he was pulling on you or am I missing something?

Now isnt propain's Zo6 Stock and you left and he pulled you back in hard?
Unless Gustav's video is a fraud which could be quite true. Mmm maybe I could give you the beneit of the doubt now that I brought the Gustav point up.

Propains z06 has the shortblock done. Netting 20-30whp. He also ran my friends 09 z06-tune,intake,catback which puts about 30+whp. The outcome was close. BTW Propain trapped 127+ in 80f in his vbox. A stock z06 doesnt trap that high in those conditions. Btw I gained 4mph+ with 40whp from tune on a 39xxlbs car.

Sorry dude, don't think he was trying. The F10 M5 has 610hp......I've been ROMPED by one in my '12 E550C. And I've raced C63's in my car several times and they couldn't shake me at all.

New m5 has 560hp on a 43xx+lbs car. You have no chance against a stock c63. A E550C traps 108-109. Stock C63 traps 114+. BTW it was a short run. 40-120ish.

Makes sense cuz he fell back so far from the start. I let off around 100, not much time for him to catch up..
He was embarrassed at the next stoplight too

New M5 is actually 606hp, I believe several have been put on a dyno, here's one:

http://www.bmwblog.com/2012/09/10/dy...ated-527-rwhp/

Think you're referring to a '10 E550. The '12 E550C engine has been dynod at 450hp and 500lb-ft of torque (basically the same as the C63). I actually drove against 6 or 7 C63's a few weekends ago and honestly they weren't going anywhere (I was surprised)

My tuned C63 dynoed 430+whp. So your saying your car traps 118+? Im pretty sure the 12 e550c is about the same weight as the c63.

Where did I mention anything about trapping 118+? Last I checked we were talking about a stock C63.
