Cam Solenoid Campaign

Took my car for the melted tail light harness today. While there, I was advised there is a Recall B 2012070002 Cam Solenoid Campaign.
They replaced: 4 271-150-01-56-05 engine wirin
4 002-997-24-90 cable tie

Have no idea what it meant but they fixed my tal lights and competed the recall within an hour. Way to go MB South Orlando.

In re: cam solenoid recall, we need to know the VIN range.

repaired.
 Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle
with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 557,108 vehicles are affected.

Did the service bulletin say that the leaking solenoid was not to be replaced?

"PLEASE NOTE THE REPLACEMENT OF LEAKING CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT
SOLENOID (S) IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE, CUSTOMER
REIMBURSEMENT, OR UNDER THIS SERVICE CAMPAIGN."

So you get the new harness(s) but you still have the leaking solenoid? Weird! I would think that at least the seal would be replaced but if that is part of the solenoid then the whole thing should be replaced. Remember there are more than 1 solenoids.

There are 4 solenoids, supposedly their cost is around $25 each. Thanks RENNTECH, for the info and when is your supercharger for the M272 coming?

This doesn't sound like a recall, then. Repair if needed and MB pays. When I make my weekly coffee stop at my dealer on Thursday, I'm going to ask the service manager about this.

I am a bit confused by this.

What good does this harness do? If the solenoid hasn't starting leaking, does the campaign harness prevent them from ever leaking or could it still happen?

Just came back from service. This Campaign affected me, so they changed it. I would like to see some pics. Maybe I'll pull the cover off this weekend and take a look.

We took our E-350 in for tire/wheel work, it appears that the dealership performed this "cam solenoid" campaign, without out knowledge. When we got our car back the analog clock is broken and the dashboard back light is not working. Are these issues related?

Of course they are not. The cam solenoids are on the front ends of the camshafts on the front of the engine under the forward cover.

I took in my car for an oil change, and asked about the recall...my car has 54k miles so it is out of warranty...but recalls are made for any mileage cars, so the answer to your question is yes, it is covered

it is NOT a recall. Owners of recall cars get a letter. Campaigns are performed when a car comes in for another reason or develops a related problem.

Good to know, but it is still covered outside of warranty regardless.

A mistype by the service writer. It's still just a campaign.

Mine was done last week along with a trans service and installation of a TPMS repair kit to fix a leak.

Sound like this could be related to this:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ngine-bay.html

Looking at post #3 in that thread, does anyone think the four round rubber things are the cam solenoids? That would be great if I could get this problem fixed for free. Every time I'm at a stop light in the cold I get this strong burning oil smell. I've been meaning to order one of those small black plugs, but I'd rather take it to the dealer for free.

Then again, this issue has nothing to do with a wiring harness, at least I don't think so.
