minor vibration

Hello All,
I have an '04 E320 with about 68,000 miles on it. I have noticed that the engine isn't smooth as it used to to. I mean once i gas the pedal slowly i can feel the vibration from the engine. I used to work on many old cars before. Problems like this is almost involving the inner engine components--crankshaft, valves, barrings, etc. I just hope something simple like a belts or tentioners or something. I can also hear some kind a rumble sound (hard to explain). I would say almost sound like the transmission, but it does it when the car is in park also. I have not really look at the car yet, just thought somebody may ran into a similar issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Could be the tranny... The engine is usually smooth and you are saying that when you press the gas pedal slowly that you have a rumble? If it was mounts, wouldnt a vibration be across all RPM range? I had a very similar issue and a tranny "flush" made it go away. The rumble however was on light acceleration and the vibration went all the way back to the rear wheels.

Engine mounts are a very common failure on the W211's. But normally, when they're bad, you feel it at idle. Almost feels like a cylinder is misfiring, if you're familiar with that feeling. That's what mine felt like before they were changed. But it smoothed out during acceleration. You're saying just the opposite....

I wonder if it's the torque converter, since you're feeling it with light acceleration.

2004, right? Do you happen to have a Valeo radiator?

I am noticing same symptoms on mine..it is when i press the gas pedel and then let it go and then i apply it again and i can feel slight vibration coming from the engine when the gas pedal is slightly applied during drving(rpm at 2500). Do you guys think its mounts?

Mounts.

But since you mentioned it check the idle pulley on the fan belt. It fails early due to small size and high loads. It won't cause the vibration but at your mileage it is going bad.

I have changed the mounts, idle pulley and fan belt at 80,000 miles.

Vibration is rear trans mount

I had same thing 2003 E500 was sure it was trans failing.
Looked at mounts all looked fine. I could feel nasty vibration at
2,000 pm in park or when driving around 2000 rpm. Removed
trans mount inspected, looked fine. Replaced it anyway $40
part. Crossed fingers, cranked it, vibration totally gone. Amazing.
Makes no sense. I bought engine mounts as a guess but didnot
need them. I had already flushed trans did not help vibration at all
still good thing to do.

Mount was easy yes changed it. There are two motor mounts.
Bet you don't need those. If you sit in the car in parodies the
vibration come in at about 2000 -2200 and the smooth out a little?
If so trans mount is it!!!

Sorry iPhone wrote parodies. It should say " sit in car lever in park,
rev car slowly if vibration gets real noticeable at 2000-2200"

My first thought was collapsed mounts.
Two engine mounts
One Trans mount

Start with the trans mount and, yes, it's very easy to change

Hey, guys,

Is there a DIY for motor mounts and tran mount? I've searched the forum, but can't seem to find one.

Planning on getting busy with my girl (w211) this weekend and just want to make sure I know where all the parts are... ..and how to undress her..

I would start with the tranny mount first it's really easy to change and only about 50 dollars. It took me longer to jack up the car and put 4 stands than changing the tranny mount. The problem went away after.

Smile w211 vibration problem

I had the vibration issue, i took car to the mechanic and had it checked,
My engine mounts were checked and they were ok, The mechanic said it could be the gearbox seal,
Asi was driving the car is w mode all the time, he changed it to the s mode, gave it a spin and it was improving

He said to use the car in S mode for a few days and will check again later.

Did same fix on my new 2004 E55 . Trans mount
replaced completely cleared up vibration while driving
Feels like bad driveshaft or some weird pulsing shudder.
This is a cheap $50 part that is a a confirmed kill for vibration in neutral comes in around 1800 rpm and can be felt while driving.

Check the center driveshaft bearing and mount. I just replaced mine on my 2005 e500. Now no vibration. It was a vibration felt in the center armrest when accelerating moderated to hard between 15 and 25 mph. Since I had to drop the whole driveshaft I also replaced both flex disc at the same time.
