Having driven and considered the RS3, the sound is so similar to the Audi R8 V10 it's uncanny, honestly the best sounding small cubes I've heard. Last car was a supercharged M3 V8 so I'm really missing a good exhaust sound. The A45 is pure quality and has everything else to offer but the sound is not it's greatest attribute 
As the Golf (although a great car) has artificial piped sound it can't be taken seriously

I agree. The RS3 is a hatch, and comparing anything about it to the best car Audi make could not sit easily with the owner. The pops and crackle are not there for sure on the R8 V10/Lambo but the engine sound is very similar and in the same frequency range. I had an Audi with that motor and a friend who had a V10 R8 and he was not comfortable at all with the sound of a TT RS. I've driven both cars and have to say the sound is really similar and one of the best engine sounds around (C63 excepted of course)

The best engine sound for a hot hatch is the Rs3 and no comparison with others. The best V8 ever is the classic 6.2 AMG I miss this one. Cannot believe we are saying its classic now
