Amg driver school cota - gts track time
Got to participate in the Amg basic driving school yesterday at cota.
The highlight for me was seat time in the gts on the cota track lead follow.
Having run a de at this track last dec in my c5 z06 it was very informative for me to run the gts and sl63 on hot laps.
I'm still a road racing newb, but I can say the gts made my novice hands feet driver cap seem better than reality. I think the car is so good that you can be a rookie driver with poor lines and the car and tech makes up for it....... To a point.
The fit finish sound feel accel braking overall dynamics are just so right for me.
The sl was no slouch, but it seemed to heat soak, and the rear end was doing funny things on off throttle in turns.... I could prob get used to it..... But these things were non existent in the gt.
If anyone is on the fence about the Amg academy..... It is really a good solid Exp with a lot of seat time in most Amg offerings.
Also have to say after flogging these cars all day long full lock steering full on repeat abs stops and wot repeated hot laps I did not really appreciate the abuse these can take. I did not see one car down all day. I will drive my Amg cars much harder and more confidentially after this exp.
I'll be watching and learning about the gts and gt arrival as I conjure up a possible purchase.
I'll be curious to see the diff bet s and reg versions on test tracks.
Also a little gun shy of first yr models.
Cheers

Diablo - You will love it. I'm going again next year. Will retake the basic, and also take the intermediate class.
Vic - COTA does it up 1st class. The photog is top.
Zibby - NJOY my friend. The price seems high at 1st... but when you consider the gas, tires, wear/tear, instruction, food..... it's money well spent. GL on the auto-cross.

No issues. I'm coming from a c5 z06 at cota, and the gts was much more composed and visceral..... And way easier to drive. I would not start with a gts for fear it would mask poor driver skills. But if you are skilled and have this car then I see some great things.

I'm afraid all the launch edition models will be gone if I wait till then. I keep reading how easy the car is to drive and how it masks beginner mistakes. Is the car truly able to turn off all traction systems? Does it feel rewarding to drive? I was going to go with a 991 gt3 but it felt soulless after driving it on track. No feel under me, steering was empty and the turn in was so easy I knew it wasn't me doing it. That being said, the gt3 was crazy fast. Even on street tires

I'm such a newb to track events with only 3 under my belt.
It was way better than :
Sl63 on cota and my old c5 z06 de car.
Confidence inspiring is what I'd say.
But again I'm still learning.
