2016 AMG GTS Edition 1 -2014 R8 & H2
New owner - female with ?s please
Hello you all, i have had my Edition 1 for about a week and it's not my daily driver so i'm slowly learning all of the tech in this car which is more than i'm used to coming from a 14 R8 (which i deeply love) This car has more gadgets and stuff! Forgive me ahead of time, i do try to read and understand it all and i do try to figure out everything on my own but i'm hung up on a few little things so i'm asking for male assistance please.
1. when i pull into my garage and hit "P" i'm putting it in park i'm assuming but when i get in it to leave, i must pull the lever (by trunk hatch button) to release...this is odd, is it just me doing something wrong??
2. I detest the "Auto start stop" coming on automatically each time i start the car, can i turn this feature off? or must i do it manually each and every time? yuck~ useless feature to me...
3. can someone tell me what the symbol is in the image? it comes on each time i drive...i have no idea what it is. ?
other than that, hello everyone! love the car so far....except the seats which don't hold a candle to my R8 seating...too firm under my butt but they look real good! Name is April ! thank you in advance for any assistance!

1. You don't have to release the Park via lever when backing out. Just start the car, put the car in reverse and slow gas and the Park will release automatically. This is only applicable if you did not set the parking brake but instead just parked the car and hit the P button by the shift selector. Same for going forward.
2. I think the Auto Start is automatically on but as soon as you start the car just move drive mode out of C and it will go away. I always go to the Individual mode which with my settings defeats the auto start stop mode.
3. That is your parktronic sensor, telling you how close you are to objects in front of you.
I'm sure there are others that can be more concise than me. As for the R8 seats, I find the GTS seats much more firm and driver oriented than my V10's set up. I am not of the buffet style torso so I like a more snug fit than one where I am swimming.
Finally, congrats on an amazing car. This is my 9th AMG and my favorite thus far barely ahead of the C63 Black.

thank you Vic?
Thank you much! I am in break in period so i've left it in comfort mode. I am anxious to take it out of that...they told me not to yet. I'm not a patient person..lol
as for the seats Vic, your reason for liking them is the same reason i don't care for them. Plus i need them to go back at least an inch more and recline at least an inch more. I really think this is a male/female thing...men enjoy these seats because i think you all prefer to track, race, drive like a maniac, etc...(and i say that with smiles) and typically, men are straight in the hips, therefore fitting into the performance seats well and preferring this due to your typical use of the car in general. While i am trim, i do have curves and i think this is why i prefer my R8 seating, my hips fit best there and i can put my seat back as far as i need. I'm tall, 5'11 with 36 inseam...and to me, the GTS is best for someone who requires less leg room and recline room. I do enjoy the car a lot so i hope to get used to position i'm taking and lack of padding under my butt! lol...oh how i wish they would have offered the plush seating in USA like they do in Eur... I'm not a trackster, racer, etc....i like to drive fast and sporty but i'm not serious about it....i like luxury with my sport and this car does have that!
Thanks again Vic for the info, that did help a lot!

Beautiful car! Enjoy the new ride. As for having curves, that is a plus! Unfortunate that the AMG wants to try and flatten the cheeks lol.

my cheeks are not used to it yet... strange because i do have a slight ghetto in my booty so there should be enough comfort for me due to that! i guess it's a matter of getting used to it...verses the R8.

I am glad the FF is about as planted as a big car can get though or I'd dump it. I need limited yaw and roll. Therefore I'm getting a Bentley (I joke)

Congrats on the GTS. Looks like the selenite grey is pretty common. I haven't seen much GTS in my area other than that one.

Yes, I also have an NSX, and have had probably (3) over the last decade or so. Fairly notorious for using them in ways that most normal human beings would not. LOL!

2009 Maserati GranTurismo Base Model 4.2 L
I hope Vic can comment on his FF, and R8
Craig here in North County, San Diego.
Vic I test drove the GTS with Carbon Ceramic Brakes at The FJ MB in Tememcula, CA yesterday. I drove in sport + and downshifted from 40 mphs manually with the paddles. The nasty backfires with the exhaust wide open was not as appealing as I expected. I thought the car would sound as refined as my 2009 Base Model 4.2 Maserati GranTurismo. Granted I could have tried the same drive with the expansion chambers diverted and reduced and seen what that sounded like. I immediately lost all appeal. Bi Turbo's blows way too much on down shifting in my small tour.
I have never heard a Ferrari or Lambo crack wind.
Or am I mistaken ?
This red is missing the Rossi Corrsica
The AMG Wheel technician may be color blind when he grabbed silver balancing weights instead of the appropriate black weights.
Cockpit is tight and I thought a too narrow door.
The down sides of a car that is not a 2+2.

Hey Craig, nice to see you on here. I guess the backfires/over runs are purely subjective but I love the pops and blasts. I rarely use the paddle shifters when driving around the streets and let the tranny do its thing in down shift blipping.
As for the FF- its a V12 with a Capristo exhaust with no backfires or pops but that car is not intended to have that but my 458 with the Capristo had them it was violently loud and exciting much like my Huracan in the v10 format. The V10 R8 has the GMG race exhaust and it backfires but not so much as the Lambo. The R8 and the FF in OEM set up don't backfire but the Huracan does with intense pops and burbles (I have a race exhaust on it now).
Again exhaust is highly subjective and the first thing I loved about the AMG GTS was the growl and bangs.

Vic thanks for the welcome.
Most importantly thank you for your insights.
Should I consider buying a used AMG GTS ?
East coast and Texas GTS used GTS are out there.
The market value is surprising to me.
Some are $ 15K off MSRP with less than 2000 miles.
SoCal dealers are selling new for $15 K over MSRP from what I have heard.

It all depends on what you want and whats financially right in your situation. You probably can get a good deal on a used one (as you mentioned) especially on a non Edition 1 that had a higher msrp. I personally like to always be the first owner of a car and while that means a bigger cash price and more depreciation, I'm ok with it.
There is about 7% in the invoice front and rear (holdback) so I can see where a more pricey used one will be discounted. The demand has dropped off on these cars so if you are not "in love" with it you might want to seek out a used one (slightly).
My car was 144k msrp and while I expect depreciation I do like that I got the carbon roof, rear fixed wing, and body aerodynamics; none of which are available on normal GTS cars currently. Ill say this, the reviews on this car back up my sentiments on its driveability. Its a tremendous RWD car with great chassis balance and power. The steering is on point into high speed and sharp turns with no understeer. Its a great AMG!!
