Low sales

Looks like Mercedes sold only 140 GTS in March. I do not know what the reason for this but if they are going up against the 991 in sales it is not working. I plan on ordering one soon (2017) a lot of car for the money.

They will never achieve 991 numbers nor was it their goal as the factory could not keep up with that many sales.
Porsche sold about 10K units in 2015 and MB sold 1,300 GTs in the US (outsold the GT-R 1,100). That is pretty amazing for a first year.

Personally I would rather have an overall low production of the GT as that means it will be rare on the streets. P cars are everywhere and a dime a dozen where I live.

Has MB marketed this car at all?

I honestly had never heard of the car until Jan 1, 2016 when I saw someone mention it on a Porsche forum.

Then for at least a month or two after that, I just assumed it was a luxury Mercedes that wasn't well sorted out as a sports car. Had a friend encourage me to check it out and I was sold.

I Agree w/Emericr quality and rarity not quantity rules still no sitings here in Chicago I know there out there but not in the wild so far but me on the nice days. I see many Porsche's on the highway each morning it makes me feel special!

The 991 is still offered at several different price points beneath the GT S's MSRP and thus a comparison in terms of sales will necessarily be skewed in Porsche's favor. To get an accurate comparison you'd have to look at GT S numbers against 991 GTS and whatever other 911s can be had for about $130,000-$160,000.

Looks like another 120 GTS were sold in April and 600 sold year to date. I am looking at canceling my order for a 2017.

Looks like it is more of a supply than demand problem.

That doesn't seem like low sales to me for the caliber of car we are talking about. Even my cheap old c55 only sold 451 world wide in 2006.

There are not that many available for sale. In my area the three MB dealers have a combined total of 4 cars. A single Porsche dealer has 15 911's. I have yet to see another GTS on the road and I have had my ED 1 for a full year now. I like it this way as it keeps my GTS unique.

I live in Orange County California in Irvine and I see Porches non-stop. Never once seen another GTS. The dealership I go to (free weekly car wash) has one GTS at a time. They eventually sell it and get another. But check this out: The one they have now has no options except Carbon Ceramic Brakes and upgraded leather. What??? Makes no sense. How that was spec'd is beyond me. It makes it an unattractive car.

So true. I can't understand how some of these cars are spec'd either. If you get the CCBs, Dynamic Plus needs to be checked too, at minimum.

Why would you worry how any are sold? I look at how well prices are holding up
And how rare and beautiful my GTS IS AND IT PUTS A SMILE ON MY FACE !

I can't follow this rationale at all. Maybe if car lots were loaded with them and dealers were blowing them out at below wholesale.
Instead these are highly regarded, rare sports cars that are nowhere to be seen where we live. Dealers have very few allocations and are typically gone before they unload them off the truck.

I am positively surprised at the ongoing high resale value. Very un-AMG like

What's not to like?

Smile It's all about balance

So, I have thought about this a fair amount and I believe that AMG has achieved pretty perfect balance between supply and demand.

You will notice that the amount of used cars and even new cars on Cars.com does not vary very much at all.

This car does not appeal to everyone and neither does it appeal to everyone's wallet.

I believe that AMG has a very good handle on this and understands that resale value is an important part of the equation.

So, I had a Porsche Turbo and I truly loved it. However, I did get a bit fed up with a Porsche at every corner and there is very little difference from one model (year) to the next.

We live in Miami 7 months out of every year, and here you see Porsche's by the hundreds and even Ferrari's, Rolls Royce, Bentley by the dozen. However, since getting down here last October I have seen a grand total of 2 AMG GTS - 1 Edition 1!

I think the AMG GT's is a niche car - and what a magnificent niche it is and all I have to say is " Vive La Difference" - I am so glad it is such a rare sight.

It reminds me a little bit about that small but perfect restaurant that you discovered and your biggest worry is that it will become too popular and you won't get a table anymore. So you are extremely careful who you tell about it.

in LA the dealer (torrance mercedes) i am buying my C43 from i've seen as many as 4 just sitting in the showroom.

i thought maybe it wasn't selling well, but i live in west LA and have never actually seen one on the road. so very hard to tell. if i could afford one and was in the market, i'd probably want them to sell less of them too, theres so many 911s and R8s in LA, that in that price range, i'd want something not many people have. the non S i'm guessing will make it a bit more common

They are only selling about 100 per month nationwide now.

AMG GTS
Mine has been a lemon but either way I hope sales stay low. Even if it wasn't a lemon I prefer not to see the car everywhere. I see about one or two per week in Scottsdale.

I suspect the reason for the low sales is the new S class coupe at a similar price point. It's much much more car for the money. I see 1 or more of these cars per day in Scottsdale.

In all fairness Porsche offers like 10 versions of the 991(Carrera, 4S, Targa, Cabriolet in every model, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS) and AMG only offers 1 version of the GT-S until next year anyway when they release the GT and GT-R). That being said GT-S sales do appear to be on the soft side. My dealership has been sitting on a black GT-S for nearly 7 months and a couple other ones for at least a couple months.
