My 17 AMG GTS at Willowsprings Raceway

Participated in a Global Time Attack event with my GTS this weekend and got first place. Had less than 300 miles on it when I got there. Very, very capable car. Even with the 140 mile drive home I'm still about 500 miles away from break in. Its a myth....

Just thought I'd share...

Nice, Congrats! What kind of lap times were you running there?

Seeing the car in your sig makes me think I met you at Weistec and maybe out at Shift Sector, could that have been you? Not too many people with track prepped C63'S

Willow is a wonderful fast track. It was my home track for many years.
. Unbelievably fast time for a stock car. When I was racing S2 in SCCA my best time was a 24 something...but that's a 1200 pound car - albeit with a stock 2 liter Pinto engine!

I would love to drive a GTS at Willow - but someone else's! Damn! I'm imagining turn 9 as the car slides out to the edge and just kicks up a little dust as it straightens out entering the front straight! In my Swift DB2 I would be flat out in turns 8 and 9 - foot to the floor - but that would be impossible in the GTS I'm sure.

Thanks. Car was almost too tame for me but for a 100% street car but wow...so capable but this was a one time deal. Miss my race car....

Both most likely. Owner of Shift S3ctor is one of my closest friends and I've been working with with Steve and Mike at Weistec for years. We've also been working on the C for a year now which is why I took GTS out on the track because its not ready. Its now under 3000lbs with a Hollinger 6 speed sequential, M15

9 AI manifold, Motec ECU and electronics Bosch ABS, all kind of cooling upgrades....basicly nothing left but the Chassis and most of the engine..lol.

Yea 8 and 9 are the scariest turn in North America...lol. I enter 8 at about 135, scrub down and start praying into 9...lol. 9 man...just wants to throw you off the track...lol

Sorry. Won with a 1:33 which was disappointing. I had to unlearn how to drive this track as I've been on it so many times with my other car was the first issue. The second one was that the GTS breaks so god damn fast that I ended up braking WAY too early which resulting into turning in way to soon to hit the Apex.

Total driver error...

I can't manage more than one daily....I don't know how you and my other friends do it..lol. Selling my 2015 CLS and probably picking up a GLE63 as a tow vehicle for my race car. Got my wife a GLA45...what a fun car.

freefall,
Thanks for posting. Nice driving and it's great to see the GTS on the track. The GTS is made for WSIR with no loss in power at elevation. I can't wait as I'll be there Oct 1&2nd.
Question were you running the MPSC2 or Super Sports? Cheers!

8 and 9 at Willow are hairy but nothing compared to turn 1 at Brainerd International(long course).....Turn 1 at Brainerd is the scariest turn in North America, possibly the entire world, 5075 ft front straight(most cars can hit top speed here if they exit onto the front straight with enough drive) and turn 1 requires no brakes, just a quick let of the throttle to get the front end settled, turn in and then back on the throttle. I am not even sure if they run that configuration much anymore, there were quite a few deaths out there in turn 1. I was entering turn one in my C63 BS at 165-167mph and back when I was racing bikes I take turn 1 at 160 on a 600

I've only run at Willow 3 times and my last time out there was the slowest because there was so much sand and dirt blown onto the track that you could not find traction. I've never really had to deal with those conditions on a track before so it took a little getting used to, I'd have been better off running my Ford Raprtor that day lol. I was kinda surprised they even let people run out there when it's like that but I suppose that's fairly normal for being the desert. Congrats on your win!

FWIW, They even let you run when it snows and it does. Only time I took FTD was in an all wheel drive Porsche. Sorry for the off topic.

[QUOTE=freefall;6901446]Both most likely. Owner of Shift S3ctor is one of my closest friends and I've been working with with Steve and Mike at Weistec for years.

Any input on the weistec coil overs for GT ??

Damn. Not to go too off-topic, but you really need to post your build in the C63 forum. Would love to know more details about your car, especially that manifold (SLS?).
