Ive seen some units on ebay,,,most seem to be for the droid phones...what does everyone use...plan is to add aftermarket speakers/amp/sub...so I am only really worried about the steering wheel controls which seem to work with aftermarket stuff...so whats out there? What works and what doesn't?

I see your post is two months old, so you may have resolved your issue. But FWIW: if the unit has a CanBus converter there is a good chance that your steering wheel controls will all work. I believe most of them do come with it, but the quality (mostly software) can vary -- some give a more seamless integration and some less so.

If you're interested, I have a complete Xtrons system for sale that will fit your ML. (I had an ML550 with the same head unit.) It is one of the better units. It includes a MOST converter so that you can use the existing Harmon Kardon amp. Brand new; I sold the car just after I received the unit before I had a chance to install it. PM me if interested.
