Help: Re-attaching side rear view mirror

Anyone encounter this problem before and know how to fix? Photos attached.

Right side rear view mirror of B200 got knocked off. I think I hit it against a pylon while driving about 60km/hr. It looks like it just needs to be pushed back into place (no broken mirror, wire still attached, don't see any bolts, and doesn't look like anything else broke off). But we can't push it back in. The metal piece can be pulled out. We tried positioning the metal with the black part in different ways but can't attach it back. We are going to try to duct tape it and plan to take it to the mechanic if we can't solve it.

first aligned the metal bar and pushed it back into the plastic clip. you need considerable force as they are hold in position by those plastic wedge.
