Do you, by any chance have a part # for the "ugly bumper bumps". Mine got damaged by someone in the parking lot

It is hard to believe the these are on the rear bumper. I have a new coupe delivery this week any these may be a deal breaker. I have seen them on a Burgundy and a Silver Coupes and are not as noticeable as on the White was. Still ridiculous they are even there. They are not on my 2015 C63 S I am trading in.

I thought the same thing before taking delivery of my coupe. They do not look nearly as bad in person. Based on the incident above, I am actually glad they are there. Costs much less to paint two bumperettes rather than the whole bumper.

Thanks for your input
Well I'm gonna let him ride for a while and see if they grow on me. If not, I may have them removed after looking at the beautiful lines on my C 63S for two years.

Wondering what the implications are of removing these "bumperettes" and insurance issues. Seems like they would love to use 'modifying' the standard bumper as a great excuse to deny claims if you are rear-ended. Could someone with more experience please weigh in on this?

These things really ruin the natural design of the car, shame we have to have them.

I thought these things were for 2mph collisions only.... Not substantial impacts.

We've all been assuming they are for the bumper regulations, and if they are, it makes sense they are U.S. spec only.

The point I trying to get more info/precedent on is related to denying insurance claims because of modified bumper. I could see pesky insurance company trying to find an excuse to deny a claim on accidents of any level above 2mph. Certainly it could be argued they are not for high-speed impacts, but since it is OEM, it could cause headaches and delays at the very least.

Guess the only option is to see what colors work best with the bumps, I've only seen black and white in person and they stand out more on the white. I'm a few years out until I am looking to purchase so fingers are crossed the E50 coupe won't have these.

The bumps will protect nothing. When removed they contained a small piece of Styrofoam.
It they're so needed why are they not on the sedan?

This is what fell out of the bump when removed..

What a great look!!! Changes the whole rear appearance.
I left the side badges and ordered the rear removed. Saw this done on a S Coupe at the dealer.
Very clean lines.

didn’t say they weren’t needed but they certainly prevented damage (in my case) to my main bumper.

Those bumper bumbs are required by US law. They are on the coupe but not the sedan because the coupe is lower than the sedan.

~ the car looks so much cleaner without them (well done). the rear end is so busy (reflectors/bumperettes) on the c and e coupes now (zero flowing lines)... not very appealing to the eye as many mentioned.

Just curious how much that costs?

In Australia, we dont get those hideous bumpers. Dear me, it would almost put me off buying the coupe. Does the sedan have something similar?

I cannot see the logic behind having something like this? I mean if you want real safety put a spare wheel to your bumper bar.

I had the exact thoughts! I owned a 2015 C 63 S,sedan, No rear bumps! It also had sport seats that did not care for.
Loved the car, but I have always owned coupes and preordered this 2017 the day they came available. I new the bumps had to go before it was delivered and had factor the $800 cost of removal as a required option for me, Scheduled the body work when I got a delivery date. Only drove the car for a day of so before taking it in for sugary . Love the look and with the rear badges off, a lot of looks as to "What MB Is That?"

I have reached that stage of deleting the badges, but I am sure I will one day to give the car a new "fresh look".

When the new C class cars come out, I may delete the C43 and keep the AMG only on the back.

I have said this before but I feel on the coupe the badges are a lot less noticeable compared to the sedans where they do stand out a lot more.
