Heater/Blower fan problem

Heater/Blower fan problem
My '98 C200 has, for quite some time, had a dodgy heater/blower - seeming to have a mind of its own whether it blows or does nothing at all. This has gradually got worse to the point that it is hardly ever working. With the winter now here, I have finally gone and bought a replacement (new) motor only to find that it still doesn't work. Any ideas what component I should look at next to solve this one?

Remove the plastic shroud underneath the glove box and take a look. You could have leave or debris in there or even a loose wire, 15-20 minute job.

I have the same problem with my C230 as i work as a detailer and frequently wash my car. it seems that the moisture gets onto my sensor and when it freezes my heat doesnt work. as it will be working fine when i drive it for a long time and the car gets nice and toasty, but then when my car sits off for a while the sensors get frozen. ive removed the motor and sensor twice already and blasted it with air, even cleaned my cabin filter. i live in canada and it rarely works when it gets really really cold. although the second time i cleaned it the lights on my heat unit dont go on ever anymore but thats no big deal.
one of my friends had the same prob with his mums c class and cleaning the sensors helped her. hopefully it will help you as well.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have now ordered a resistor off ebay which I am hoping will do the trick.
Please keep posting any advise, I will update any progress (hopefully) when I get the resistor pack.

Check along the firewall on the passenger side. There is a small flap about the size of a nickle.Thats your drain, make sure that is clear also.I keep mine clean by using a leaf blower and directing down along the black plastic vents next to the windshield.

Just to be clear, C43AMG is talking about inside the engine compartment just in front of the firewall on the end of the big black box that acts as the intake for the ventilation system (not the engine intake).

Success at last ! Having bought a new motor only to find my heater/blower would still not work, I returned the motor and got a refund.
I reckoned the next part to try was the regulator (210 820 62 10).
Did some surfing and found a used part on ebay (£30 sterling), fitted it this morning and BINGO, its as good as new.
