Reattaching the mirror on a 98 c230
There is a bracket that has a hook on it that holds a VERY STRONG spring - the hook broke. Got a new bracket from a used mirror assy off Ebay but am trying to figure out how to remount the mirror without tearing up the car and more importantly my fingers. Theres no way to hold the mirror to the car, bend the mirror back and put the screws in without risking the loss of a few digits! Does the inside assembly somehow seperate from the outer shell? I could see if it did, then you could mount the inner shell to the car, slide the painted outer shell back on and then snap in your mirror. I know I can't be the first person to break one of these - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello: I recently did that on the driver side mirror… had to use a flat head screwdriver to hold it…*it worked, but was also afraid of getting hurt… it was ok, but you have to use a long screwdriver, also used a couple of youtube vids on how to do it…
this was the best in my opinion:
i screwed the front most screw first, then the bottom rear, then top rear…
good luck!
