The C36 brakes are a good upgrade and they are also found on a few other models (w129?) too in case you are going searching in the junk yard. There are some others that are a pretty easy swap. Search the archives here and at the other big MB forums. I know it is has been discussed in detail in a couple of places.

The problem is that the c36 brakes are much more expensive. The w129 brakes arenīt the same as w202, in w202 the calipers are in front of the axis, and in the w129 are behind of the axis...
Thatīs why i was thougth in the w140 ones, because of they are in in front of the axis too.
Best regards !!

Maybe it was an R129? Whatever the 95/96 SL model number was. From what I remember, the guy doing the research found they had the same MB part number. If I remember right, the C32 (w203) and the CLK430 (w208) were mentioned as additional options for possible donor of calipers.
You just need to do a bit of digging because I know people have come up with lots of options for swaps of calipers and then detail the other stuff you need to make it work (e.g. hubs, rotors, etc.).
