Replace 722.602 with 722.695 auto transmission
Hi there. Please help. I am from South Africa. I have a 1998 W202 C200 with an auto transmission which is busted and I need advice. The 722.602 is hard to come by. Can a 722.695 work? Will my TCM communicate with it without going into limp mode? Would I have to get the TCM ? Thanks in advance.

Yes sure it will work, 602 & 695 sharing the same out-put power (W5A 330Nm),
you will need to take-off the front housing from your old trans. & put it to new one,
602 comes with park cable, but this hole which park cable seated is covered in 695,,
you have to remove the cover & reinstall it....

Make sure the 695 you found is working good without any internal issues,
don't worry about TCU, just after complete installation you have to reset & recalibrate the ECU/TCU via MB STAR/SDS,,
everything will work then..

Thanks for this. I notice that the front stub on the 695 torque convertor has a smaller diameter. Will I need a new flex plate and is this a straight bolt-on onto the c200 flywheel.

Welcome mate,
I don't think there is any problem with flywheel, that depend to the converter version, both converter's can be swappable to each other,
it's a basic theory in 722.6xxx..

I sure hope you are right as this will save me further money and hassles. So I have to go to a eealership for the recalibration of the tcm as I do not have any diagnostic tools.

The 722.695 is guaranteed to be good, from a accident damaged c180 that was still drivable when towed in. The problem that I have is, "How do I know the box is not the problem immediately after fitting it. If it is "limp" and I have to pay for the recalibration and this does not reolve the issue, how do I confirm transmission or tcm problem?

Long story. Someone attempted to fix it and mixed parts of a c180 and my c200 internals. Currently, I have a 79T internal ring gear on my input shaft mating with the balance of the c180 output shaft and other parts. The bushing in the K2 drum have been replqced to fit the larger output shaft end. The 14T pinions seem to be meshing ok with the 79T ring gear but I am not confident that the ratios will be correct. I did not get my original internals or Torque convertor back from this guy. I have given up on him

I see, agree with you to get another gearbox & keep this nightmare away,,
BTW; Limp mode or limp home caused from speed sensor(part of conductor plate),,
or oil sneaks to the TCU, causes some interrupt to the signal inside the TCU circuit...!

Yes I am familiar with this. Thank you I really appreciate your reponses. It is rather late and with it being Ramadaan I am going to sleep now. Hope we can continue with the meaningful interaction tomorrow. Salaam Ierfaan.
