Could you add transmission fluid from top engine bay?

Hi guys, I'm posting on the Merc forum for a friend of mine that asked for my help and got me so confused that I'm desperate for answers. It's a 2002 C320.

The problem they're having is a, supposedly, transmission leak. It's leaking from a rubber hose that connects to the radiator. Top left/ passenger side. He also claimed that he added transmission fluid from the top of the engine bay.

I have an e46 bmw and work on my car all the time. I've done transmission flush on my manual transmission and it is quite similar to the way described here on the forum. Both fill and drain bolts are located underneath.

Could you guys add transmission fluid from top of engine bay!?

I suppose you could add transmission fluid thru the transmission dipstick tube. It will take some time, but it's possible. IMHO

When I serviced my tranny a couple years ago, I refilled it through the dipstick tube in engine bay.
