transmission problems

my 99 c280 sport has started shifting with a jerky motion it takes off from a start in the mornings then throws us back in the seat like it just down shifted.sometimes when we come to a stop sign it down shifts very hard into a lower gear .iv'e read you can't check the fluid level is this correct?also any help on why the trans.shifts funny sometimes? thanks

You can check the fluid level with the proper equipment. You'll need the Dipstick Tool. I also recommend replacing the filler cap and locking pin.

Before going further, have you had it up to see if there is any tranny fluid leaking.
If not, it's a different problem.

as we are both retired and on fixed income,i'm saving to go to a dealer here in ohio and have them check transmission out.wish me luck!

I would try resetting the 722.6 Transmission settings and see if it still does that jerking motion. If and possibly it still does, I would do a Trans service & flush all the way back to the converter. And if that doesn't fix your problem, then your transmission might be going out, but I say reset & flush.
