W202 Oil Change Materials List

I'm about to do my first oil change on my 1994 Mercedes C280. Rather than draining the oil from the bottom, I'm looking to use a system like this.

Is this an appropriate system to use? Also, this would be the tool I'd use to get off the oil filter cap to change it.

I also want to use this filter.

The oil that I want to use is Shell Rotella 15W-40. Are these the correct tools/parts?

Too much money to buy a pump that you will only use every 6000 to 8000 miles. Cumbersome to use, and not guaranteed to remove all the oil in the pan. You still need to dispose of the used oil.

A plastic kitchen dish pan works just fine
Line it with a plastic garbage bag, and when your finished, just tie the top and dispose as required.
The car has 6.6 quarts with filter.
It is recommended to use Mobil 1 (expensive) and a 5W-20W

The filter cap removal tool is fine. About $5.00 on Ebay, but you need a ratchet to use it, with a small extension.

Okay, I will try that out. The reason that I chose that oil is because that is the oil that had been used before. Also, what size extension will I need?

You need an extension for the ratchet to remove the filter cap which is like the one you received a photo of showing you the tool(s) to remove the spark plugs.
The main reason is, the filter cap is not that convenient to get at without the extension. I imagine you could do, but I haven't tried it without using my extension. A 6 inch extension or longer would be fine.

What size socket is my question. And also what do you recommend for the throttle body clean? A throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush? One more question also, do you recommend filling up the oil filter with oil?

The oil filter cap removal tool does not require a socket.
As you can see, there is a square hole in the middle of the tool.
The extension, without a socket, fits in that hole, and then you turn it counter clockwise to get the cap off.
To clean the throttle body, use Seafoam carb and throttle body cleaner, Spray it on both sides (top and bottom, and the exterior) Give it a good spray, and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes, and use a tooth brush to work it, and then wipe it with a clean cloth. If it is really dirty and gummed up, you may have to repeat 2 or 3 times.
Once you put in the new filter, you can add oil to the filter area before starting. Remember, it takes 6.6 quarts to fill, including the filter. The oil is generally sold in 4 Quart containers and 1 Quart. It is best to put in approx. 6 quarts, start the car and check for leaks around the filter cap and drain plug on the bottom. If there is any leaks, tighten things up, but don't over tighten or you can strip the threads. Shut the car down for a few minutes, and check the oil level on the dip stick. You will see that it is a bit low to the top fill line on the dip stick. Add more oil (0.6 Quarts) slowly, and keep checking the dip stick until it reaches the top Full mark.
Now, your finished and ready to go........

Okay, the oil quantity for the C280 is 7.9 qts. And can I use a product like this? http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/v...2333/7670004-P Thank You Again PTCRUISER, I'll get all of my materials for the Spark Plugs and Oil Change when I go back to the Auto Parts store, hopefully soon!

Sorry, I was basing the oil capacity on C230 not C280. My mistake.
I am sure the carb/throttle body cleaner you indicated if fine. Seafoam is the "premium" product", and recommended by most people for the best results.
It's not a big deal, as long as it cleans the part properly.

Short of dropping the pan, neither the drain plug method or the suction method will get out 100% of the engine oil, so either method is worthwhile. For those that like the convenience of vacuum, I still recommend that every other change be done from the bottom, not for completeness . . . but for the opportunity to do a visual inspection of the bottom of the car while the oil is draining. Look for evidence of leaks, cracked rubber or worn spots.
