Looking to buy 2000 C280 100,000 miles

Hello.

I am looking to buy a 2000 C280 with 100,000 miles.

According to the CARFAX full report, the vehicle had been serviced regularly by the Mercedes-Benz dealer up until 73,000 miles and no record of service there after.

I am mostly concerned with timing chain related parts. (I know the timing chain itself will last for the life of the vehicle.)

If I decide to buy the car, what should I look for? Please give me some warnings and advice.

Thank you.

If it has been dealer serviced for most of its life, then it should be a nice car. Not much someone can screw-up in 35K miles. I have the same car bought about 10 months ago with 97K on it. Previously had a 1998 C280 that got totaled, this was its replacement. Depending on what the dealer did, you'll want to check out the suspension parts (Ball joints, drag link, steering stablizer, LCA bushings), I replaced all of those on both cars. Make sure all of the electronics are working properly (Windows, sun roof, AC Vents (OK those are vacuum), instrument cluster). Change all the fluids (Brake, transmission, differential, coolant, of course oil). Check the connector on the transmission for signs of leakage (should probably replace that anyway), and you should be good to go. Once caught up on maintenance (assuming it was not abused before) these cars are relatively bullet proof.

Have not heard or seen issues with the timing components.

Wow. Thank you Austex_Egger for your awesome and detailed advice.

I am kinda nervous about buying a German car because I have been driving only Hondas and Lexuses.

Buy it, you will love it. As Austex said, bullet proof if it's maintained properly

Mercedes E 200 CDI Elegance
The Mercedes C class W202 is a very good car, especially the facelift-version from 1997-2000.

The only big problem with this model was the Rust.
The Rust problem was unfortunatly not solved untill the facelift of the W203 in April 2004.

100.000 Miles/160.000 km ist nothing for a W202, most of them you can drive 250.000 Miles/400.000 km without problems.
