Head gasket replacement
Do I need special tools for this? Is it basically unbolting the head and swapping the gasket? I'm sure the head needs to be machined flat but besides that is it fairly easy?

2007 C230, 1995 C280
The labor charge to replace a head gasket on a C280 is approximately 8+ hours. Maybe a tad less on a 220. Does this answer your question about the degree of difficulity for the job? It's a bit more tome consumming then just "unbolting the head" but certainly something that a cometent DIY can manage. Good luck.
